DUBLIN (Reuters) - A rare bottle of Irish whiskey is up for sale at a record 100,000 pounds, making it the world's most expensive single malt.

The whiskey -- spelled whisky in Scotland -- dates from the late 1800s and is believed to be the last surviving bottle from the Nun's Island Distillery in County Galway, western Ireland, which ceased production in 1913.

Erm- why would I pay that much money for something that I'd drink in a very short while.

And I'm pretty sure whiskey that old doesn't taste as smooth as brandy.

I don't think i'd ever drink it... It would have to be an investment only.

!. to have the cash to throw at it.

2. an 200 year old whiskey, couldn't imagine... oldest I have had was 50, it was pretty dam good.

3. and like you said, even if I could buy it, I wouldn't drink it. It's an investment at that point.

IF you could afford it.... Why invest?

I'd say
Drink it and be merry :drinkers:

Brandy will always be smoother than whisky!
made from grapes like wine, not like "the amber nectar" :)

Imagine ~$10,000 a shot! :yikes:

Thats only IF I could easily afford it..

Otherwise, Keep until I could buy a house with it :) (here in Dublin the average house price is ~€200,000 FOR 3 BEDROOMS!)

If I had that money laying around, I would buy it, and host a "rich-person" charity event where I sell the shots for 4X the amount I paid.

$100,000 to pay for the bottle
$100,000 to pay for the event (ie, make the event big enough to draw in the rich people)
$100,000 to give to the dedicated charity
$100,000 for my profit!

This way I steal from the rich, give to the poor, have a big party, put the 200 yr old whiskey to use, and double on my investment all at the same time! :drinkers: :snakeman:  :P

hum time for Nate to do some math...,

A 750mL bottle contains roughly 25 1oz shots, or 17 1.5oz shots.

If you go to a bar in America a single shot is 25ml and a double is 50ml. If you are in Europe a shot glass is properly filled at 4 centiliters (40 mL), thus 18.75 shots to the bottle.

You'd have to charge a ton per shot to pull off that party.

I'm with ya mate....not full-blooded, but it definitely runs in the immediate family, on my father's side, I would give both my testicles for that bottle of whisky and a box of authentic cubans :)
