Will the BP 'Top Kill' Work?
Do you think it's going to work or fail? They say it has a 60-70% chance of working...

Re: Will the BP 'Top Kill' Work?
The BP CEO just gave an update that things are going to plan, but made no comment about wtf the plume showing on the live feed is from. Did the BOP rupture? All Tony said was that neither increases or decreases in flow are an indicator of the success of the project at this point... seems to me that the oil is leaking from somewhere else now... maybe worse?
Re: Will the BP 'Top Kill' Work?
is there a particular reason we can't tap the oil and use it? i mean if theres enough down there to flow throughout the rest of our lives, one would think we use it instead of importing

He looked nervous when he spoke... maybe it was just me. I would love to hear what a facial expert has to say about his interview.

BP Progressing LMRP in Parallel with Top Kill
http://www.rigzone.com/news/article.asp?a_id=93712LMRP Option
Being progressed in parallel with plans for the top kill is development of a lower marine riser package (LMRP) cap containment option. This would first involve removing the damaged riser from the top of the BOP, leaving a cleanly-cut pipe at the top of the BOP's LMRP. The LMRP cap, an engineered containment device with a sealing grommet, would be connected to a riser from the Discoverer Enterprise drillship and then placed over the LMRP with the intention of capturing most of the oil and gas flowing from the well and transporting it to the drillship on the surface. The LMRP cap is already on site and it is anticipated that this option will be available for deployment by the end of May.
Additional options also continue to be progressed, including the option of lowering a second blow-out preventer, or a valve, on top of the MC 252 BOP.

Re: Will the BP 'Top Kill' Work?
I already think that it's not working. I think they are buying time to figure out what to do next. A few days ago I remember hearing that once they started the "top kill" it would only take a few hours to get a grip if it was working. Now they are saying 24-36 hours. I just want it to stop. Not tomorrow, NOW! And clean up ALL the oil. Never will happen, I know. The Gulf will never be the same again in our lifetime.

Re: Will the BP 'Top Kill' Work?
I'm listening to the President right now and he just saying the same thing. We are in charge and we have a lot of work to do. Problem is that it's to late and not enough work is being done to clean up the mess. My dad would have said "To many Chiefs and not enough Indians". Meaning to many bosses and not enough workers. The clean-up will never be enough to bring back everything lost. We haven't even seen the worst of the oil spill coming on to shore yet.

there is a good chance that this will work but the damage done already is enough to make you think is there any point!

Re: Will the BP 'Top Kill' Work?
I certainly hope it works but I'm really pissed that they don't have more measures in place to avoid such a disaster. Something that can have such a disastrous impact really needs much more regulation and safety measures.

Re: Will the BP 'Top Kill' Work?
they said they are giving up on Sunday and have been junk shooting it with things like gold balls and tires since last night... They said only 10% of the mud they are pumping in has stayed in... sad day...

I'm watching the live feed http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp ... 2#37412412 It still looks like a lot of oil is gushing out.

Re: Will the BP 'Top Kill' Work?
They are doing alot of work on it right now.
Edit: The leak looks just as bad as before, If not worse. I see now that they are using alot of dispersant. What a mess!

Re: Will the BP 'Top Kill' Work?
I heard them mention in one interview the option of imploding the well, as a last resort. Don't you think we're there now.
I believe some type of failsafe should be in place for a disaster like this, and someone with the guts enough to push the button.
