Just killed this in my basement in Missouri. Does anyone have a clue wtf the species is?
It doesn't look friendly and has orange on it and I was always taught that bright colors means it's poisonous.

Not sure what that is! Looked on the list of spiders in your state and don't see it.

Yeah, I saw that they had some nasty bites. Just looking at the shape of the body makes me think Hobo. I hate spiders. I've looked at too many pics this morning and now I'm kinda creeped out.
For those of you out there who like the woods at night - how many webs have you walked through and felt crap running around your head? I always hated being on point at night.

Agree with Major_A think it's a Wolf Spider.
Apop, does ANY spider look friendly?

Nate I've had those spiders in my home every year since we built in '98. The first few years they were everywhere, I'd be sitting in the living room watching TV and see one or two walking across the carpet nonchalantly. My cat even lost interest in them because he got used to them. At first I didn't care because I also had crickets and I figured that they were eating the crickets but I never saw one actually attack a cricket. I've only seen a couple this year, maybe one upstairs and one or two downstairs. Last year one in particular was a real PITA because it crawled up into the condensation tube at my furnace/AC unit in the basement, created an eggsac (I think, or maybe just a web ball) inside of it and clogged it up. AC quit working and it took a day or two to figure it out until I saw water collecting and dripping out of the top of the plenum. I manipulated the hose until I was able to work it free and directed the gooey water down the drain and then all was well.
In all the years I've had them they have always high-tailed it away from me or any moving object as fast as they could so I never gave them much thought other than to spray in the basement and the foundations outside. The biggest worry you may have is in your basement if you have some boxes of stuff that haven't been opened in awhile you may want to take them outside and let them sit for awhile in the sun before you try to open them. And then just turn them upside down and dump them out rather than reaching your hand in.

See the beauty of Britain is that we don't get any really nasty spiders or snakes come to that. I have to say though after a bit of internet searching it would appear that I am none the wiser. About any spider.
