Doom Movie Night in St. Louis on Oct. 21st 2005

Post by Apoptosis »

With the new Doom movie coming out on Friday, October 21st I thought that a bunch of the forum members from St. Louis would like to get together and see the show. It would be a great chance for the locals to get to know eachother and see a movie based off a video game series that nearly all of us have played at one time or another.

If we get enough people we can get a group rate.

I was thinking the early 6:30pm to 7:30pm show so if people had a chance to get there and get back. The St. Charles Cine 18 movie complex would be ideal with access to Highway 70 & Highway 364 and both highway 40 and 270 within 10 minutes.

SYNOPSIS:
Millions of devoted fans worldwide have been spellbound by the dark invention of its adventures . . . have awaited its every incarnation with urgent anticipation . . . and have devoted countless hours, days and weeks to conquering its hidden mysteries: Doom.

When the home-computer game "Doom" was first launched in 1993, no one could have foreseen the legion of fans it would create and the mania surrounding its every new permutation. "Doom" and its successive installments have transfixed gamers worldwide for over a decade and have sold millions of copies (while chalking up an unprecedented tens of millions of downloads as shareware). It is, simply, the most explosive home-computer game franchise phenomenon in history.

Now, the game that made history is jumping from computer screens to the motion picture screen: get ready for Doom. Set countless years in the future and told in the hyper- kinetic, kamikaze style that made its gaming predecessor a global phenomenon, the science fiction action adventure Doom takes the viewer to the far corners of the galaxy with a fully-realized vision of a dark and disturbing future.

Doom is directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Cradle 2 the Grave). The film is written by Wesley Strick and Dave Callaham, based on the id Software videogame "Doom 3," and is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Constantine) and John Wells (Far From Heaven, White Oleander, television's The West Wing, ER). -- © Universal Pictures

Geez, you guys have all sorts of awesome stuff going on up there in the STL, hmmm, I think I might have to make a move, and would probably consider it if they have plenty of technology jobs; South Carolina is just too slow-paced for me (compared to Long Island, NY, and it's no where near as busy as NYC); what ya say Nate, think you could use a neighbor 8) ?

not to hate on st louis, but you wouldn't like it, killswitch.... i'm from the dc suburbs in maryland and i get so homesick sometimes. if you loved being back home in long island (where it's diverse and has a sweet music scene), you'll trust me on this.

Hmm, I dunno man, stay down here in SC for about a year, and you'll find yourself homesick for STL, lol; tell me something though, is it expensive to live up there like it is in NY, or is it cheaper than that? And I guess the big question is if there's any decent jobs there, because here in SC, all the good jobs are drying up, and the only things left are jobs like manufacturing, which is what I'm doing now, but finding myself more and more incapable of doing, so I would rather have an office job, or at least one where I can work on computers everyday (configuring, upgrading, diagnosis, network support and implementation, etc), but like I said, those are almost non-existant down here. Thus, you're lucky if you're making 9 bucks an hour (you can make more, if you want to work 84 hours a week in a hot, stuffy plant). Anyways, I ramble too much, I was just curious as to the demographics up there.

if i were to go back to kentucky, i'd probably get homesick for south carolina. kentucky was the worst.

it's not expensive to live here at all. not like it is in montgomery county, md or long island.

Sounds good; now if they have some decent jobs, we're in business here, lol. It's like I said, down here, jobs are withering (except in Greenville, but that's like a 45-minute drive on the moron-ways; if I had a huge brushguard, then I would be tempted, lol); yeah, gotta take I-385 to get to downtown Greenville, and going down that highway is suicide right now, due to the massive construction and, once again, the frickin idiots, lol. Like I said, I need a big brushguard :axe:

i was in bowling green, ky

i'm not sure what the job market is like up here... i'd imagine it's gone down a little, seeing how we've taken in a bunch of katrina evacuees

what sucks, for me, about the st. louis area is that it's segregated and there's not much diversity, either. it just kinda seems like most people over here are the same; there's no real personality differences from one person to the next. but some people are really into that... so, maybe st louis would be great for you :)

edit: oh, as for many of the drivers in the st louis area, forget about it. it's honestly ridiculous how many jerks there are out here on the roads. back home, there was something known as highway courtesy (i guess you pick it up whenever you live in such a busy area). however, down here, if you want to switch lanes, the people who are supposed to let you in speed up so you can't switch lanes! it happens ALL the time, down here. another thing is that whenever you slow down to let someone switch lanes and get in front of you, they don't give you the "thank you" wave. i let people switch lanes all the time (as should be expected), and i think i've only gotten 'the wave' about.... hmm... maybe 4 or 5 times total (and i've been living in the st. louis area for over a year).

either way, i hope this movie doesn't suck. there are two things that're going against it... 1, it's got the rock.... 2, it's a movie based on a computer game. historically, movies in either one of those categories have flopped. i hope this time that won't be the case :)

lol; Ken, you forget there's around a 5 hour time difference between us; right now it's close to 2pm where you are, it's only close to 9am here; I was on till about 12:30am Eastern Time last night, and I tend to hit the room up before I go to school in the morning; the good thing is that I have high-speed at my home, so it's extremely convenient from my view, lol. think I need to go back to bed though, can't seem to get the cobwebs out of my head, lol.
