It was about time Pujols finally got ahold of the ball! And the fact that the pitch was from Lidge makes this HR that much more important since he is no longer 'unhittable'!
w00t! The Cards Stros in Game 5! (and with class... the cards didn't celebrate this win any more than they did a regular season win by giving calm high-5s on the field... they didn't jump up and down on the field like a team should only do when they clinch the series).
great game... i was out with friends watching the Rams lose and the Cards game and when he hit that home run the place blew up. What was funny is that the guy sitting next to me called the play in the an inning before to the t as he said it happened in the regular season once already.
They both have been very impressive....they're playing another one tonight, right? Oh damn, wait, I'll be at work, cripe, lol, I'll just check the scores when I get home
Ldge throws hard, but this whole series has had serious issues with everything being flat. In game 4 it took an incredible (and questionable double play) for Lidge to get out of the mess he created and save the game for the Astros.
I said when the playoffs started it would be Houston and Chicago in the WS, but the momentum has totally swung in this series for the Cards. Even though they have Oswalt and Clemens pitching, the Astros play terrible at Busch Stadium, and the Cards could easilty sweep the next two.
BTW, this is probaby the best playoff series since the 95 Yankeezs and Mariners series when the M's came back from 2 games down and won the series in the 11th inning of the last game.
SUCH a sweet ending. my buddy was pissed and figuerd the cards would lose... i kept saying, "dude, it's baseball... anything can happen with only a 2 run deficit"
from here on out, it's gonna be all cards. i highly doubt the cards will lose games 6 and 7 at home.

dude, what about last year when the bosox pulled 4 wins in a row out of their asses to beat the evil yankees? that HAD to be the best championship series.... not only did game 4 and 5 go into extra inning, but game 7 SPANKED the yankees 10-3!

The Cards definitely have the momentum, but with Oswalt and Clemens going its going to be really tough to sweep both games......and even though Lidge blew it, the Astros bullpen is the best in baseball.
These last two games are going to hinge on whether the Astros can score some runs. If Carpenter was going to pitch on of the last two games, the Cards would be in much better shape, but with Morris, who has been awful the whole second half....it'll be tough
I agree with capper... these last two games are going to be just as tough as the last ones... the only benefit is there are no Crawford Box's at Busch... so only REAL HR's will happen as the photo which started this thread shows!
I'm just glad that we didn't let the Stros take us 4 games in a row... (knocks on wood)... so even if the cards don't win the last two games of this series... ahem... let's just say I won't be AS pissed as I would have been if we lost Game 5.

The next game is tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 8pm Eastern.
Justin, one thing I have to say is that both teams hit at the same park.....neither team had an advantage...... it cvame down to Houston's pitching, which might be the best in baseball. They kept the Cards hitters in the park.
I just don't understand Pujols (the best player in baseball) even seeing a pitch close to the strike zone. If he wants to hit something way out of the zone, fine, let him get himself out....but the fact that Lidge even gave him a strike is beyond me.....I'd much rather face Reggie Sanders with the bases loaded and two outs than Pujols with a chance to win the game.
Let me add to that by saying you people in St Louis are blessed, Albert Pujols is one of those once in a lifetime ballplayers, and like another Cardinal, Stan Musial, he has never gotten anything close to the credit he deserves.
I realize that both teams played at the same park. My point was that the same HR hits that the Astros made in Houston will be caught by Sanders in Busch.
