Re: Who here has an Android Phone?
Everyone I know that has an Android phone (a handful of people at work) either wish they got an iPhone or are planning to get the Verizon iPhone. All for different reasons.

Re: Who here has an Android Phone?
I'm leaning towards the Galaxy S or the Driod Bionic (if its out) with my next phone swap in May. I refuse to get an iPhone. I know a couple people with Driod phones, think rat6fink has one now.

Don't know how much bloatware is installed on your DroidX but I found this.

If nothing else rooting your phone is nice to have Wifi tethering free. No monthly charges.

Re: Who here has an Android Phone?
Yeah, it would be nice to get rid of the crapware that I don't use at all but I just hide it in the app drawer. I use ADB Launcher and thats about it. Not to the point of rooting yet and rarely use the Mobile HotSpot feature. The phone works great so I don't feel a need to take the chance of bricking the phone, can't afford to replace it at full costMajor_A wrote:Don't know how much bloatware is installed on your DroidX but I found this.

Re: Who here has an Android Phone?
Upgraded to the DroidX from a BB Storm. I loved the Blackberry Storm but didn't use most of the networked capabilities. The DroidX blows it out of the water and, after getting used to it, I see what I was missing. My wife (who hates smartphones) upgraded to the DX from her Boulder at my challenge, and is a DroidX addict nowHarryQ37 wrote:I know of several people who have Androids. I am still have a Blackberry but I plan on upgrading soon. You can do so much more on an Android than any other phone, in my opinion.
It does have it's issues and quirks though and Google does want to own your life and soul (but not in an evil way )

Re: Who here has an Android Phone?
Verizon doesn't charge you for the mobile hotspot? Sprint wants $30 a month for the feature. This includes a simple USB tether if my home network craters or I'm out and about with a laptop/netbook. When I first got my Blackberry several years ago Sprint let you wire tether to the net through their network. At some point they found out people were using it so they started charging for it I guess.DaddyRabbit wrote:Yeah, it would be nice to get rid of the crapware that I don't use at all but I just hide it in the app drawer. This is all kind of moot anyway. The only time I use the net on my phone is when I have a charger handy and a wireless router to connect to. Otherwise if I'm out I tend to turn all the radios off to save my battery. The lone auxiliary port in my car decided to die a year ago and I can't charge the phone in the car.

Re: Who here has an Android Phone?
Yeah its $20 a month but its not a contract. I can use it for a week and its pro-rated so I still don't lose much. The thing is they went to a tiered plan so its not unlimited.Major_A wrote:Verizon doesn't charge you for the mobile hotspot? Sprint wants $30 a month for the feature. I would only root if I had a wi-fi only Xoom where I could use my Droid as a hotspot.

Re: Who here has an Android Phone?
I thought there were a couple of different apps that you could buy to get the mobile hot spot without going through the Sprint app. I want to say the one I looked at had a one-time charge of $30 and that was it.

Possibly so, but when the phone's rooted the app is FREE!!!!!!!! [end enthusiasm]

And there are a bunch more but they all have one thing in common "Requires __ROOT__ access".

Right, rooting makes it free. I don't remember the name of the app that will let you do it without rooting. I'll poke around and see if I can find it again. I've considered rooting it just to get rid of some of the bloat. Although I gotta say this sucker zips along pretty damn fast compared to my previous Android phone and it was fine until I picked up this one.
