Check out what Canada is trying to test out to reduce the numbr of speeders they have.

The system being tested by Transport Canada, the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. Department of Transportation, uses a global positioning satellite device installed in the car to monitor the car's speed and position. If the car begins to significantly exceed the speed limit for the road on which it's travelling the system responds by making it harder to depress the gas pedal, according to a story posted on the Toronto Globe and Mail's Website.

Give control of the gas pedal to software? Uhh... I'll pass.

Software crashing at home is one thing, crashing on the road is another matter altogether.

Maybe if they had NASA write the code I'd consider it.

yeah they calculated in inches instead of milimeters.....came up short!!!!

I gotta have a '69 Chevelle SS 454....now that's one hell of a muscle car, lol....either that or an old-school TransAm with the 454

I wonder how long before someone hacks the databases of roads=speeds? 15kph=freeway or 90 in a school zone.
how about one that just debits the ticket price from your bank account instantly, and shuts off when you are out of money?

they should also have a device that automatically explodes the car if the driver is too stupid-

that'd help alot here

really though, if you could make the speed limiters hack-proof somehow (or really strong against hacking, using maybe WPA2 encryption for the signal), it would work.

Ahh well, not much of an issue once everything becomes like Minority Report.

Actually, for the early 70's motors I would prefer a 400 small-block over a big-block engine. Yes, there is such a thing as a 400 small-block. Hard to find but very nice engines. Some of the old Grand Prix vehicles had that engine in it. The transmissions on the 400 block engines are some of the best as well. Those trannys were used quite a bit in racing; don't know if they still are.

TH400 used in conjunction with the SB 400, right? That was a pretty decent tranny.....and yes I knew there was a small block 400, lol

My stepfather used to be pretty big on older engines (not so much now due to not being able to work on them anymore due to his health), he showed me a lot about old muscle: you can't beat em for the classic style and power (yeah sure there's newer blocks out there with more power, but there's nothing like a 350 4-bolt main blown and all-forged in the older models....gooood stuff )

Yep, that's the combo I'm talkin' about.

My family vehicle has a 350 under the hood but it has a lot to pull. My family as of this coming February will be up to 5 kids so I have an old 4x4 3/4 ton 1978 Suburban with a 4" Rancho kit (it came that way :p ). I get good gas mileage with it too: 11mpg. Before anyone gets on my case, I hate tailgaters and the price of a extended minivan to add more metal between my kids and the tailgaters in the case of a accident was far higher than the cost of this SUV + gas. Personally, I wish tailgaters were assigned a new label: premeditated vehicle manslaughter drivers. Maybe that would get the point across to their selfish style of driving. Driving this huge beast I'm throughly amazed that people actually tailgate with them.

hey man, I got a good example of a stupid tailgater......I was pulling out of work not too long ago, a couple of weeks ago I guess, and a guy in a brand spanking new 2005 F-150 (Just got the truck that day!) started tailgating really, REALLY close (like within inches of my bumper). It was rainy and wet, so you can imagine already what's amiss. Anyways, there was a stop sign right before you get onto the main road, and I came to a complete, slow stop. He, however, did not, and ran into my Reese hitch. He tailgated me to the interstate, flashing his lights trying to get me to pull over, I decided not to because the f**ker shouldn't have been following that close anyway. I got back to work the next day, and saw the extent of damage done to his BRAND NEW truck: the bottom fascia was gone, the middle grill was all busted up, the right headlight took a good hit from the rear bumper so it was busted up, and he just scowled at me as I was walking into work. Talk about your complete, total frickin dumbasses, I just laughed and walked in...I'm so evil

it's a good idea for the year 2025 when the software and technology would be safe enough... now, no way. especially not with nasa at the helm.
