I live in a condo CA. We are having some rain and wind today. I was outside on my patio and I heard a snap, a big snap! We have a huge oak tree next to our unit. I went outside underneath the oak tree to assess the damage after calling the HOA. I walked outside and looked at the tree and it looked like a steel cable had snapped. I went to the HOA office and told them what I heard. I soon walked back to my unit and to my surprise a huge limb off the tree broke off blocking the entire road. I ran back to the HOA office and told them to come outside quickly to see the damage. I said to call the Sheriff's dept. to close down the street and to call someone to remove about 1 ton of branch that fell on the street. What a mess! I feel very lucky that I did not stand under that tree for very long, otherwise I would have been dead.

I woke up this morning and went out to check out the oak tree. Another huge limb broke off and caused a lot of damage to the surrounding area. Edit: All I heard was the sound of chainsaws and tree branches being shredding today. That majestic tree is being hacked up to 1/2 it's size. What a sorry site. I will try to post some pics tomorrow.

damn. just imagine what the tree did upon the break. splinters everywhere. glad you got away safely

Thank goodness you didn't stand under it too long or when that sucker snapped!

Just a update today. The entire tree is being cut down today. I guess it had some disease so all I hear today is chainsaws and tree shredders.

Haha, I live on 30 acres in the country, and in 5 years of living there, we've had two oak trees (same size as the one in your pics!) completely fall over, crushing our gate, and another huge branch fell on our aluminum shed that houses one of our water pumps, completely crushing it as well. Unfortunately, since it's private property, we had to do all the chainsaw work and wood-hauling ourselves. Plus side, we have lots of firewood now. We're just hoping nothing falls on our house, since we have three oaks next to it...
