I've been to the Northwest Territories and the Yukon, I'd imagine Alaska is pretty similar. Probably has more ski resorts though, which might be worth checking out.

I've actually had the fortune of going to Alaska and it is every bit impressive as they say. I didn't venture up past the arctic circle, but it was still very remote and wild. Denali National Park was amazing and despite the 6ft of snow on the ground in April the herds were out and about. If you have have the opportunity to go...take it.

It's a great place to visit and a even better place to live........... 8) I lived in Fairbanks for 3 years back in the mid 70's , my first duty assignment while in the Army. I'd go back again if I had the chance. It's the best hunting, fishing and 4x4'ing in the world. 5 minutes by road out of town and you're in total wilderness and you won't see another person for days.
