I believe a no swearing rule should be in effect.

Shouldn't something like this also be against the rules. QFT

It more or less is, but we dont use a filter rather we do it by hand, more intensive but there is a difference between calling someone a bastard and calling an object a bastard, why have a filter that cant tell the difference.

I also read EVER post that gets made, and every now and then i will edit a word or two.

We try to be self regulating and hands off, it encourages a more free form of communication that helps every one.

What's wrong with language? It has nothing to do with maturity- some people like me enjoy vulgar language, and I'm keeping that vague cause not all vulgar language is cursing- sometimes it's just talking about inappopriate content or borderline socially unacceptable topics.

I like pushing the borderlines of societal stigma (mostly because I'm an atheist and I think people choose to be offended by the silliest things) and I amuse myself and others while doing it, free speech shouldn't offend you. Take your religious dogma and enforce it somewhere else.

I've violated the rule a few times here, I try to catch them and self-edit them whenever I can- but the language comes naturally to me. I usually try to restrict myself in gaming communities with alot of minors, but I find it so strange that communities of adults will look down on people who implore bad language as a means of expressing themselves.

They're just words ;p

I totally agree, however some people do take offense to it and it's a shame to drive people away for something so inane.

My personal pet peeve is ppl who writ like this in netspeak u no wht i mean? Especially from those asking for help. My stance is you expect me to take my time to read and/or answer your post, you should at least be respectful enough to write it properly. This isn't instant messaging. Do I abbreviate sometimes? Yeah but not every word and I'm not typist by any stretch. Those are usually the same people who'll ask a question that's been asked and answered a hundred times and are too lazy to do a search.

I cuss out objects, like f---ing router, but not people most of the time, filters can't tell those things.

Cursing, to me, is often a indicator of intelligence and an individual's grasp on the English language. I mean, think about it. There are very few "swear words," but there are hundreds or thousands of other adjectives and embellishments that you can use in their place. Not to mention that with the "f" word, most people seem to lose perspective of anatomy all together...

exactly, more like a lack of intelligence......ya I cuss sometimes, but I'm psychotic and had a friend who specializes in psychiatry diagnose me with a mild form of Tourettes (tics sometimes, and my words get jumbled easily but I don't blurt out too often).....but yeah a common everyday person uttering those simple 4-letter expletives shows lack of vocabulary IMO.

I don't think so....I've grown up in Dublin City....I hung around very unsavoury people all my life....It's standard for me to say the F word when speaking to people I know...I don't curse when speaking to someone who doesn't curse out of respect...or I wouldn't curse when other people I don't know can hear, again out of politness.....
But I have no problem if someone is cursing when speaking to me (in person!)
