I just read an article on United Airlines and saw that they have been able to keep operating costs at 7.5 cents per seat per mile for their flights excluding fuel.
Doing the math that is not bad at all, but then again think about those high gas prices.
Cost of Flying Per Seat Per Mile!
I read some where, that a fully loaded 777-300 on a crosscountry flight =26-28 MPG per passenger, but you need 367 others in your carpool.
Fuel costs are killing all the airlines at about $1.90/gal now vs $.077 in 2000.
if you think filling your car hurts imagine feeding a fleet that sucks down 4-6000 GPH EACH and has to fly everyday, full or not, to pay for the planes.[/b]

I dont pay 650 bucks each time I take my car for a spin. They are taking in plenty of cash.
The reason the "Airlines" are hurting is because the fvcking CEO's pay themselves 800 million a year and the other ten-thousand employees have to fight for dinner scraps.
EDIT: Actually that my major issue with Bill Gates. He's gotta be the richest bastard in America so he hires retarded, dyslexic, illiterate people for phone support. They take the jobs because no one else will settle for minimum wage.
