Rude Americans

Ken will probably especially enjoy this one...
The train was quite crowded, so the tired US Marine walked the train's length looking for a seat, but the only seat left was taken by a well dressed French woman's poodle.
The war-weary Marine asked, "Ma'am, may I have that seat?"
The French woman sniffed and said to no one in particular, "You Americans are so rude. My little Fifi is using that seat."
The Marine walked the entire train again, but the only seat left was under that dog.
"Please, ma'am. May I sit down? I'm very tired."
She snorted, "Not only are you Americans rude, but you are also terribly arrogant!"
This time, the Marine didn't say a word, he just picked up the little dog, tossed it out the train window, and sat down.
The woman shrieked, "Someone must defend my honor! Put this American in his place!"
An English gentleman sitting nearby spoke up, "Sir, you Americans often seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing. You hold the fork in the wrong hand. You drive your autos on the wrong side of the road. And now, sir, you've thrown the wrong bitch out the window."

well that may be as it may but dont u guys think that americans are regarded as rude or arrogant without a reason. of course its stereotypical to claim this, but im not claiming that everyone is arrogant.i actually met some very nice people in the united states.
so the story now;Just a couple of months ago 2 american soldiers under NATO supervision managed to travel to Lithuania, my homeland. They were both black in fact i might just say that right now. Of course, people were surprised to see black people there cause about 98 percent of population is white. Blacks are actually liked there as we had 1 on our basketball team and he did very well, but later left.they are also very rare, i only saw 2 male blacks and my 13 years of living there and no female blacks. Well getting back to the story the 2 american soldeirs went to a restaurant. they got intoxicated and started making fun of everyone else, claiming americans were better than them, and yelling obscenities.. outraged, the people in the restaurant got up, beat those two guys up, and on top of that called them niggers and told them to "get the hell outta there".
Now the moral is that granted, everyone in USA is not arrogant. But who represents the united states in other world countries ? mostly-soldiers; not lawyers, doctors or judges. And while i respect the soldiers a great deal for defending their country, they arent as intelligent as a heart surgeon or anyone else with higher degrees. The reason why the world thinks usa is arrogant is that u ppl are getting misrepresented.
Now everyone in my homeland actually like Americans because of what you guys stand for, im talking about democracy and freedom and etc...English is a required foreign language to learn, and you take it in FIRST GRADE. i actually traveled to other world countries such as belgium, holland, germany, poland, denmark. Not once did i hear anyone talk poorly about americans for any other reason but 'arrogancy, rudeness'.
And the story that started this thread; french are french what can u do bout them ? cant justify that dumb lady on the train.
BTW* sry for spelling mistakes i couldnt run thru a spellcheck and im tired.

I like that joke
Ken, that seems to be a general sentiment among the Irish: "as long as you don't think I'm English"...one of my best friends in Ireland said the only time he ever got slapped was because he asked a girl if she was from England...he said he hurt for a week after that (she was in fact, from Dublin)...

It is.....How would you like me to call you English or Canadian?
America was part of the british colony way b4 Ireland........ (not that Ireland really ever was!)
I'm Irish and proud of it.....No offence to UK members, but Ireland got where it is on it's own and all credit goes to our own people......without going into this too much.....england didn't do jack all to help us.....infact they done the exact opposite.....so it's an Insult.....thank you very much ;P
now tonight I'll get dunk and sing some Fenian songs lol

Im sorry but to think someone from Ireland is English is just plain foolish, not only do they talk differently (way different accent) they act different.
I was in Nottingham England not too long ago and was staying in a hotel that is an Irish hotel, I could pick the Irish out a mile away due to their accent, same with the Welsh, and yes Im an "arrogant American".
Funny thing however (was visiting Nottingham Castle) the ladies there said the most friendly people they get in are always Americans, that we always want to talk with them and have always been very nice, so yes we do have some bad apples, but for the most part we are very aware of our "status" in the world, and for the most part act properly.

One thing I noticed in Ireland, however, is that there are MANY different accents on that tiny island. By the end of my 3 month stay, I could tell the difference between accents from Sligo, Dublin, Waterford, etc. To be quite honest, the Dublin accent has an English hint to it -- some more than others. To be quite honest, the same can be said for England for that matter. So it may not be as foolish as you think. There is that small minority of Irish that sound quite English.

Very possible, as I was only exposed to the Irish working in the hotel, but to me there was a very distinct difference between Irish and English accents.

That's the difference between US Soldiers representing America and a tourism spot getting middle-upper class Americans to represent the US.

It's just the same in the US i suppose.....goto NY then goto Alabama......
in Dublin there are ALOT of accents too......there is the Dub accent which is considered common
there is the "posh" accent which, normally people from the south side of the city have --> their accent is kinda English like......
once you go outside the 01 area code (dublin) there is a different accent for each of the 32 counties.....in some counties like Cork or in the west there is multiple accents in the same county...
There are also areas of ireland (the gaeltacht) where people will only speak Irish......to make things even more confusing....they speak different dialects of irish in different areas --> Galway Irish is differnet from Cork

Now I don't want to come accross as some Republican (but I am ;) ).....

Agreed to a point. When I was in the Air Force, it was drilled into our heads that we were representatives of the United States, and to act as such. Anytime one of us got in trouble off base, it was our asses.
But that brings it back to the point that some bad apples spoil the bunch. Also remember that view is not always due to someone actually meeting an American...
Edited to add**
But I digress, and didn't mean to pull this off topic, that still is a funny joke.
