It appears that the box and the device were tampered. Check the Canopus web site and the manual and both mentioned a CD-ROM. No CD-ROM. Reviews all talk about how good the software is to the device.
Newegg's response to the CD-ROM. We don't list the CD-ROM on that product so there is no CD-ROM. You will need to talk to Canopus about it. That's what I'm doing now.
Newegg is now off my list of resellers to recommend, I have been hearing too many complaints about NE lately and now I'm the one that gets dinged. NE has received close to $20,000 in purchases from me in the past 5 years. So I guess I'm a small fry in the pond but nevertheless, I done with newegg. I much prefer Monarch and ZipZoomFly. Wish either of those two resellers sold this device. For NLE hardware, I will now deal with videoguys.
Sorry, I'm not quite sure where to post this thread. In an odd way it's not a computer part.
Newegg is a huge billion dollar company now and is different than the company with the answering machine back in 2000-2001 that shipped products the same day and was nice to all.
Sad we live in a country where $20,000 in orders is small -- most familes in developing countries don't have a combined income of nearly that much.
I have moved most of my buying to other sites. Newegg is still one of my top choices as a retailer but changes in their shipping policy, RMA policy, and the overall level of service have forced me to buy other places.
"Don't open that! It's an alien planet! Is there air? You don't know!"
I also dislike their new shipping policy. It is much easier to spec out a system when everything (except cases and monitors) was 'Free Express Saver' shipping with NewEgg.
The last two systems I've spec'ed out from newegg have over $50 shipping tags. Whereas with their old policy, it was $10 or $15... depending how much it cost to ship the case.
I suppose I will also be migrating over to ZZF for most of my online sales.

If Canopus did not list it as part of the package and if newegg did not note that it was the retail package that I'm purchasing then I would understand. But it basically looks like newegg is selling this product without one of the more important parts to the device. This software only works with this device, you cannot use it on anything else. I guess the other thing is that I definitely got a tampered device, the box was opened before I got it, the tape on the bubble-wrap that the device was in was ripped open, and the manual look worn. So it looks to me that NE accidently sent me the wrong package but to further claim that no CD is there when the Canopus' web site clearly notes a CD for the package as well as any of the other reseller sites I have checked out makes NE look rather bad to me.
Canopus has already contacted me to let me know that they will send me a replacement CD free of charge. Yet more proof that they consider the CD as part of the retail package. Now I just need to see what NE is going to do with the tampered device.
First, they shipped a Win XP OEM with no COA. This they blamed me for. Like I was going to lose such a thing. Their solution was to have me call Microsoft and plead with them. That was a joy.
Second, I wanted to return a Celeron 478 that wasn't going to work with my MB. They never even answered the email.
I tried phoning them, and the wait times were > 30 minutes. Calls I made were answered by reps indifferent or untrained.
While I don't always like Newegg's pricing (I guess they don't ever want to see cables; check out shipping costs for a SATA cable), their return policy is transparent and they've done what they promised on my 2 RMAs.
Newegg's value is increasingly in the cogent reviews. They are like Amazon in this regard. Harvesting opinions for Newegg or Amazon and buying product elsewhere is commonplace but should give all customers pause.
Recently I had a motherboard that due to many different hardware attempts left me with a motherboard that was purchased over 40 days. They understood the reason for what happened (I only had 10 days which happened to at the end of those 40 days when I discovered I could not use the board). Through their forum and email they took the board back with restocking fee and a credit to use within a year. That was a $240 board.
I have heard bitching about all of them here and there. I haven't had an issue with any and Newegg did an awesome job with my RMA. It's like any other business...you patronize them enough and you'll have an issue somewhere along the line.
Today, I recieved my order from New Egg for my OCZ Powerstream 520 SLI Power Supply, however, once I opened the box I saw that it is in fact a OCZ Powersteam +600 SLI Power Supply. How about that?
Sweet. A member of another forum order an Opteron 175 or 170 (I forget which) and he received 5 of them instead. He proceeded to sell them... which just raises the prices for the rest of us.
Soooo...I order some stuff from ZZF on Monday. Mainly I chose them because they had free 2 day shipping. They end up shipping it TODAY so I won't have it until Friday. So much for 2 day...

I'll agree with you on that point, I've had different problems with just about every retailer out there at one time or another. One big one from Newegg was taken care of extremely quick and to my advantage (free upgrade with express shipping). And one even bigger one from Monarch, which I got zero response from them on. It took a trip over to Nates house to get me up and running...............
If I can help it, I will not shop at Monarch, but sometimes they are the only ones with the item I'm looking for, so I have to dance with the devil..................
I've had extremely good service with NCIX so far... apparently a Canadian Newegg is opening sometime, but I'll probably stick with NCIX unless they give me problems in the future, especially with their pricematching I can use if anything at newegg is cheaper.
I agree that if you deal with any retailer long enough, sooner or later there will be a problem. However, it's the retailers willingness to satisfy the customer that determines whether that company is above board or not

I've had drinks with the owner of NCIX a couple of times and really like him. He doesn't have the best relations with some companies and his stock of certain type of products reflects that back in 2004/2005, but now moving into 2005/2006 he has become big enough to force companies to support him if they want sales in Canada.... More power to the guy and his growing company.
