Newegg - not as good as they used to be

I am a big fan of Zipzoomfly.com, Monarch is decent, not as good as ZZF or newegg, Chief Value is also ok.

I've always gone to outpost.com. I check their "hottest deals" section bi-weekly. They had a duel-core amd 3800+ with agp/pci-e MoBo for $260 about 2 days ago... I love their deals. As for new-egg, I've no problem with them until they screw me over. Monarch is decent too.

Zipzoom is great. SVC is great.

Monarch is ok.

Newegg while very reliable has raised prices across the board.

NO! Where did you hear that rumor?!?!? Monarch is a small company in Tucker, GA. Newegg is a California based internet giant owned be completely different people. Monarch is service with a smile. Newegg is service with a smile till something goes wrong then you have to pay $27 to get a refund :|

Well, newegg is trying to make it right with me. What I was expecting to have happen right away is now happening.
1) They are shipping me a new device, next day shipment.
2) They are letting me return the tampered device free of charge. No restocking fee, no shipping fee.

That was I really wanted from the get go. Took a little time for this to get turned around to this method. I'm in middle of the process so I'm not going to say they redeemed themselves until the process is done.

ZIP ZOOM FLY ALL THE WAY!!!!!!! There has only been one thing "new"(i say that not including ebay or other people for used items) somewhere else. You cant beat the price with 2-day shipping! No where!!

only other thing(contradictory i know) is Frys, the store itself. they sometimes run specials on raptor 60bucks after 30$ rebate!

 Yeah, I remember googlegear as well. I used to purchase my stuff through buy.com.

As for the Internet, well I was using corporate email on 8086/8088 machines. I even uploaded accounting entries using a very slow modem and used an IRMA emulation board for mainframe connection on an IBM PC/XT.

I remember the time I had to replace a hard drive in an AT&T 8086 work machine. That was a "huge" 40 Meg HDD. That bugger was twice the size of my 20 Meg drive in my home computer; however, my home computer had a better proc, the 80286 and it was loaded with Clipper Summer 87, dBase III+, Lotus 1-2-3, Lotus Symphony, and Mean 18.

Er, I better stop - my age is showing. :P

Oh God... Lotus 1-2-3 LOL. I was a wee child, but I lovingly remember my 2800 baud modem and BBS's. TEXT ADVENTURE GAMES FTW! Legend of the Red Dragon anyone? That might be a long shot though...
Windows?! wtf is that?!

I mostly buy from Newegg and I have never had any problems with anything that I have bought from them. I have also bought stuff from Newegg's other site -- Chiefvalue. I will usually check both sites because sometimes thier Chiefvalue with have free shipping. I have also bought from Monarch and ZipZoomFly (Googlegear).

My order of preference:

Newegg
Chiefvalue
Monarch

Good to know there will be more choice in Canada. Anitec in Vancouver is also good http://www.anitec.ca (eg. $355 for AMD X2 3800 vs. $384 at NCIX).

I've never ordered anything from anywhere but newegg

Post by dgood »

I usually like to order my parts all at once and get them all at once. so I usually pic newegg, I see the biggest selection most reviews, but Is till look around to other sites for prices and if there's a big enough descrepency liek $5 or more (counting shipping as a difference) I'll go somewhere else. so far new egg has treated me well on building the 5 or so I have. I do agree however I hate their new shipping plan. Feder express ftw, ups has been sucking it up on my recent orders, fed ex was always either early or on time. Also new egg is not processing orders near as fast as they have in years past, that does bug me but if you get the order in at the begining of the day, you seem to have a much better chance of it getting processed that day. I would choose newegg, then zzf, then monarch on my order. thats my 2 cents or maybe a bit more.

has this happenend to anyone else lately with newegg?

i order the product and when it arrives, instead of being packaged up and protected, it just comes in the box you would get if you bought it off the store shelf?

Had that happen with cases (including the Antec Overture and Aria cases). A few years ago they did that with a Viewsonic VP171b LCD monitor.

my mom and i, just this christmas ordered my dad a new speaker system for his computer from newegg. we were satisfied he would not see his present as newegg has great packaging and it'll be boxed in a delivery box.

Wrong

oh well, he saw his present before we even saw it. :(

kinda makes me wonder what my new Newark 4000 is going to be shipping in, lol

i'm thinking maybe newegg did that to save shipping time for christmas. but they better not keep up that practice.
