For those like me who have no idea who this chick is, I did a google search for her and found:
Lindsay Jacobellis snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in a manner of which Devon Loch would have been proud in the women's snowboard cross final at Bardonecchia.

Like the Queen Mother's horse, which famously belly-flopped before the finish line in the 1956 Grand National, Jacobellis appeared certain of victory as she led the field by almost 100 yards.

But Jacobellis attempted an ambitious 'hot dog grab' on the last big jump and fell upon landing, allowing Switzerland's Tania Frieden, who had given up the chase, to sail home for gold.

Jacobellis, who nearly slid over the line on her back, recovered to claim silver, said: "I was really excited and everything seemed to be going well then I landed badly.

She has to be the biggest fool in the world. She will never live this one down and all people will remember about her is not how she won the Silver, but how she LOST the Gold.

Actually several of the much hyped team USA have belly flopped badly. Is it pressure? Heads too big?
Kind of sad after the years these people put in to becoming the best in the world, to stupidly throw it away.

Besides arrogance, you have to take into account the maturity of many of these athletes. Many of them haven't even really reached adulthood before they become Olympiads, and when they are winning by such a distance, they don't think of the possible consequences of "showing off" a bit.

i agree. i felt the exact same way when that happened. cockiness. the whole time, i kept telling the tv, "don't get stupid... don't get all cocky and do some ssx tricky move in the air.... just win the gold.... don't fsck it up..."
