CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- A brief earthquake struck the Midwest early Monday, rattling windows and awakening sleeping residents from Wisconsin and south to Missouri and from southwest Michigan and Indiana west to Iowa.
No injuries were reported from the quake, which occurred about 2:11 a.m. ET.
The earthquake also was felt lightly in southwest Michigan, according to information posted on the U.S. Geographical Survey Web site. The USGS had reports of the earthquake being felt in Buchanan, Berrien Springs, Benton Harbor, St. Joseph and Niles.
Brian Lassige, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Colorado, said the quake was magnitude 4.5, and its epicenter was about eight miles northwest of Ottawa in northern Illinois, close to the small village of Troy Grove. The rural area is about 70 miles west of Chicago.

Man, that nothin, come out West, i'll take you to a place where they have almost 100 quakes a day that are that strong. The geothermal wells outside of Cloverdale Ca have between 100-300 quakes a dayy, some as large as 4.0 on the scale. You guys just worry about your tornados anhumidity... and floods.
Well, wait, you guys actually had one of the worst quakes in history back there, rang bells in Boston and made the Mississippi flow backwards, wasn't that the Madrid fault?
