at my appartment complex, we can only have direct TV. We are renting 4 receivers now and i am wondering about buying our own receiver instead of renting. I just dont want to buy a receiver and it not work correctly or something. Any of you guys have Direct TV and/or have your own receivers?

yup, I have direct TV

we just inherited the in-laws directTV PVR, they went back to cable for net/phone/tv combo. All we had to do is get the S/N off the box and buy an access card and they added it to our set up we had.

Now where the sticky part for you is that the dish is in the complex's name. I dont think they will let you have a receiver and no dish, has to do something with how the billing works.

Who do you pay for you programming, the complex or direct tv? if its direct tv then I wouldnt think there would be a problem of buying your own receiver. then its just an issue as to wether or not the complex will let you use their dish and not rent their receiver.

because american corperations think all americans are nothing but brainless money bags to be sucked dry. the more complex it is, the more money they make because your willing to just toss $$ at it to get it fixed and working.
