SLR stands for Single-Lens Reflex...hmmm a digital version of the old 35mm cammeras with interchangable lenses.

they are nice, if you have a grand to drop on a cammera. Most cost 500+ just for the body, then you have to buy the lens.

The main advantage of a SLR (apart from image quality) is that when you look in the viewfinder you are seeing what the photo will be, instead of with traditional compacts it is not the true picture as the viewfinder is ofset from the lens.
