Lost my freakin' job!!!

After 6+ years of dedication and busting my butt I got laid off last Thursday, because our parent Company decided that my position was no longer required. My Boss and Director had no clue this was even coming as it was as much of a surprise to them as it was to me. I survived three prior rounds of layoff's since last April and thought that I could hang on until something else came around, but now I'm scrambling to get my feet back under me.

If any of you know of anyone needing autocad work, electrical or structural, I can work from home. I have AutoCAD 2005 loaded on my personal computer.

Thanks,

Razorbacx

Well that sucks
You'd think they'd find something you could do, or at least give you some warning.
A skilled draftsman/structural engineer (not sure exactly what your status is) shouldn't have too much trouble finding a better place (hopefully without moving), but change is hard.
Good Luck \:D/

sorry, don't know of any at the moment. I know finding a good paying cad job sucks anymore. I'll ask around.. Have you ever done mechanical drawings or just mainly civil?

Well, it's only been two days since it happened and I'm doing everything that I can to rebound. I'm hoping to use what skills I have to move into other areas and try to diversify myself.

I worked in the Aerospace industry and my specialty was aircraft wiring diagrams, although I did dabble in the structural side of things by drawing up manufacturing drawings on occassion.

Anyway, thanks....

Sorry to hear about that too Dragon. I'm trying not to dwell on it too much. I've got a family to worry about and I'm really feeling the pinch right now. I've been told that when GOD closes doors he opens others. I'm just hoping that I'm smart enough to walk thru the right door.

Don't worry Razorbacx you are; that's not even a question. In any case I did some searching about and found a few classifieds lists so here they are:

http://littlerock.craigslist.org/egr/
http://fayar.craigslist.org/egr/
http://184.careersite.com/candidate/pro ... uicksearch

Don't know how much this helps, since you've probably checked all the classifieds already. Just as a word of advice, you might want to post your resume somewhere, like monster.com if you haven't already just so more people can potentially see it. Sorry that I can't help in any more significant way, since I don't live nearby but good luck on your job search and I hope a position opens up soon for you.

Have you tried posting on http://www.dice.com? For techy stuff this site is pretty decent. I know in the KC area that recruiters will start calling you within a day or so of posting. Also, I know it sucks to get laid off, been in telecom the past 7 years and have been laid off 4 times.

Good luck!

I've got some things in work now, all thanks to some good friends. It's not always what you know, but rather WHO you know... :) I'll check out Dice and see where that might lead me as well..thanks for posting it Sporg.

Many thanks to those of you that responded with encouraging words.

I agree, it's definitely about who you know. Anyway, good luck. I just received an email yesterday stating that there will be a reduction of 5000 this first quarter. And I have an all-hands meeting in the next 5 minutes. Woohoo!!!
