I also thought about a "site discussion" forum, but that isn't the point of these forums. My feelings from looking around the net is that those turn into problems. My goal is to provide a place for people to come and share their computer experiences, give and get help, make friends, and learn about the cutting edge stuff hitting the streets.

Having a site discussion forum would end up fulll of worthless posts like "I got the same email twice!!!!"

I do plan on adding a "How To..." forum where people show off how they do certain things, what i would like to do is make that a locked forum, but members submit their posts for inclusion. My thoughts were that it would be a great way for people to contribute something to the site while at the same timepossibly helping someone with an issue they might have...Ideas are things like "How to...set up a secure network", or "How to .... make a slipstream WinXP CD", things along those lines..
I'll share a little experience with you. Over the last week I have looked over several forums to get ideas, what i liked and disliked, and also what would cover topics while also being unique. A couple of things i noticed in un-named forums were the facts that most had a very small core of active participants, and that the reason for that in most cases was that that small core was for the most part really irritating people!
My one real pet peave is flaming. If people trust us enough to come here to ask for help, take a minute, explain to them the answer, if it is going to take too much time, link a good article to them or something.....I don't ever want to see people flamed on the boards. My point is that on the other forums i looked at, several times i saw people spend more time being asses than it would have taken just to help the person out and answer the question. If you don't have anything constructive to add, don't add anything. (And these guys wonder why their membership is down!!!).
On a slightly different topic, I have spent alot of time over the last few days trying to organize and clean up the boards the best I can, bear with me. I thought sending out a monthly email to let everyone know what was going on and what our plans were was a good idea. Some people might be busy, some might have just forgotten, but sometimes a simple reminder can bring people back, and let them know that we (okay, mostly Nate) put alot of time and energy into making this a great site.
As to posts, I deleted the one about the "Lady from Russia", and a couple of others that were locked. none of the deleted posts were computer related or really contributed anything to society. I don't believe in wiping out peoples thoughts or opinions, but these were serving no purpose being left out there.
As always, share your opinion, help your fellow members and by all means, tell us what you think about the site, what you want to see, and what you need help with.
