Does anyone have one of these?

Can you tell a difference between 480p, 720p, 1080i?

I bought a cheap one ( might be my probelm right there ) at Sams Club yesterday - Magnavox DP170MS8 - that included the HDMI cable for $50!!! I hooked it up, but I cant tell a whole lot of difference between the modes. Am I doing something wrong?

I know I should ask on a video forum, but I figure someone here has an upconverting player and can help

Was going to get the Philips that played Divx also, but i didnt think it would upconvert the divx anyway.

Upconverting to 720p is the best, as that draws the whole 720 lines at once, where as 1080i only does 540 in the same time.

I guess that if the upconverter isn't that good you might not notice much difference. But check out 480i vs 480p (or 720p) and you should be able to tell then
