It is a lot easier to back into a spot than go forward into a spot. Good luck!

Yeah, even the auto-Lexus backs in, because the front of the car swings around more easily than the rear when turning.

I did my road test about 3 years ago, and didn't have to do parallel parking for it. Didn't have to look anything up either, I took a drivers' ed. class, if you can show the certificate, insurance costs are halved around here.

Good luck, don't be nervous when you go. :)

I suck at parallel, and my state doesn't test you on it :)

Here in Arizona, they still require you to demonstrate your parallel parking skills before issuing you a license.

No one knows why since there are only about 2 parallel parking spaces left in the state.

It must just be a demonstration of skills, once you have your liecence there are rarely situations that you HAVE TO parallel park, their is almost always head in parking somewhere close by.

except in the cities, unless you want to pay $25 to park for a few hours. My first parallel parking experience was in athen, ohio. I was driving an isuzu rodeo, and it was friday night in a college town... I learned quick!

Really? I lived in Phoenix for thirteen years, and I got my driver's license in Scottsdale and I didn't have to parallel park - that would have been thirteen years ago this year. No one parallel parks in AZ - it sure was a shock when I moved to Boston, land of the bump-tap-bump-tap 'til you're in parking method...

That is interesting. Two friends from out of state had to do the parallel parking maneuver (both within the past two years) to get their licenses (they were from NYC and only had ID cards). I wonder if the requirement depends on if you are 1) a first time applicant for any DL or 2) from out of state or 3) already have a license from another state, etc.

Well, at least they know how to do it now. :P

in NY you need to parallel park to get a license. I been driving for two years and I almost never parallel park, and I live in a metropolitan area ( Brooklyn ) But I also stink @ parallel parking ;( need ton of practice.
