Need LCD Monitor For Gaming

Post by Apoptosis »

I'm tired of looking at my 19" CRT monitor and am looking to upgrade to an 8ms or lower 19" LCD monitor. This monitor will be used for gaming and for 2d office applications. What do you guys think I should get?

I was looking at the Samsung SyncMaster 915N (Black) 19 in. Flat Panel LCD Monitor over at Newegg for $309 after rebates.

Any other suggestions?

I'm used to getting 17" lcd's... and the rule of thumb for gaming on a 17" lcd is 16ms or less and a 450:1 contrast ratio. So for a 19" lcd for gaming... I'm sure 8ms is adequate, and it looks like the samsung 915N has a 700:1 contrast ratio.... so let's not go below that one.

Looks like the Samsung 915N is a good option with the rebates and a 3 year warranty...

Another possibility:
http://www.newegg.com/OldVersion/app/Vi ... 164&depa=0 - SCEPTRE X9g-Naga III
8ms response time
800:1 contrast ratio
1 yr warranty
$335 - no rebates

I went ahead and got the 915N... It's in Step 4 right now: "Your order contents are packaged and sealed."

Hope it works out well!

My brother bought a ViewSonic VP191b and loves it! I gotta say, it's a pretty nice monitor! Too bad it has one dead pixel in it already! :?

I have this:

19" LCD Hyundai ImageQuest L90D+ Monitor - zipzoomfly.com

it is an 8MS DVI connection.

I had a 25MS before this one.

I must say this monitoris extremely nice. I would recommend it over almost all monitors of the same size that are out right now.

TomsHardware did a review on the hyundai LCD, it looks really good. When my CRT dies ( I have a feeling it will soon  ) I'll be getting it. The price is amazing too. Kinda too late to mention it though?

I'm looking at getting a Dell 2001FP soon.

Be very careful with LCD monitors that have low response times, some of them achieve this through a process that reduces the maximum colors. You want to be looking at monitors with a maximum of 16.7 million colors, beware of those that have less, even ones with 16.2 million will have a very visible difference.
