Having some widescreen notebooks and monitors I'd like to play games with widescreen resolutions. For some weird reason the F.E.A.R. demo and even the full game is rumored not to support wide screen monitors. By default, F.E.A.R. runs at a resolution of 1024x768, with options to go as high as 1600x1200. Vivendi is not planning on changing this.
If you are a bit ticked off, don't worry you aren't the only one. As to nearly everything software related there is an easy way to hack it.
I got 1680x1050 to work by changing the settings.cfg file. The file is located in this directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Monolith Productions\FEARSPDemo
Open the settings.cfg with notepad & edit "ScreenWidth" & "ScreenHeight" to whatever you want. Then simply save & close the file in notepad and you are done.
My exact settings were:
"GammaB" "1.000000"
"GammaG" "1.000000"
"GammaR" "1.000000"
"BitDepth" "32"
"HardwareCursor" "1.000000"
"ScreenWidth" "1680"
"VSyncOnFlip" "0.000000"
"ScreenHeight" "1050"
You are going to decrease the Frames Per Second (FPS), but at least you are using your widescreen monitor theway it is meant to be. Runs pretty smooth on my system with the X850XT PE.
