I think you have to give it to the original Half Life. There are a lot of great games listed here, but Half Life was a true original. Really rejuvenated the FPS genre.

Call of Duty, Quake, and Unreal series.

Scariest FPS for me has to be doom3... there were multiple times where I had to set down the controller and take a break after a quick scare.

Half life 2 had some good poison headcrab jumps that scare the crap out of you too!

HL2 is by far my favorite, I just love the gravity gun, and physics in general. Garry's Mod makes the possibilities endless too! I made a pontoon boat with paddle wheels... the ingredients were blue floating barrels, wheels, a refriderator, and keyboards

I think the game i got most in tune to was MOHAA, both in single player and multiplayer.

But the most fun i have ever had with single player is HL2, hands down. Mulitplayer would have to be BF2.

As of right now i am really big into team fortress 2.

Nobody has mentioned Duke Nukem 3D????
Surely I'm not the only one here old enough to have played it! lol

When i started playing the first release of Unreal, the graphics totally blew away Duke!
But for some reason, Unreal just never "grabbed" me.
I played Unreal, then Unreal Tournament, then UT 2003. (Haven't tried UT 2K4)

But even to this day I find myself comparing every FPS I play to Duke.
As fun as it is, IMHO, the gameplay and the fun factor in Halo is far below the antiquated release from 3D Realms.

I should mention too that single player gaming is totally boring for me.
No matter what the game, the only time I really enjoy it is when playing multiplayer.
Therefore, story lines, plots, and all that stuff is totally irrelevant as far as I'm concerned.
I just wanna kill other people! :axe:

I remember Duke Nukem 3D... I remember hiding in a little alcove and setting off pipe bombs as my friends ran by!

Along with "Duke3d" would have to go "Redneck Rampage"... He! He! those were the days :partyman:

I just started the COD4 demo and have to admit that I may just get back into FPS after a long haitus.

COD and COD2 hooked me as well as all of the HL series, I too never got into Unreal and FarCry didn't do much for me either.

I will be getting COD4 though, the demo rocks... :supz:

Currently playing the COD4 demo and Hellgate London beta, this will be a killer holiday season for games!

I'm assuming that you are playing COD4 on your 360, and Hellgate on your PC, is that correct? I haven't seen anything on a beta testing for COD4 on PC, maybe I just haven't looked around enough. :-k

No consoles here, for FPS I just can't get the controls to work right. I believe the COD4 demo for PC was released Thursday, It's only one level (The Bog) but it's pretty intense...

Well, looks like we have quite a few HL2 fans here, did anyone get the orange box?

Also, is the black box still available for download from Valve? I have a coupon for it that i got with my graphics card.

The black box was cancelled

The orange box is awesome, and if you already have hl2, and ep1 you can send those to any other steam account as a gift.

Portal is awesome, ep 2 is much cooler than ep 1, and TF 2 looks like it would be fun as hell (but I cant play it, dial up internet)

even thought i loved BF2 and BF2142 - EA has really let me down. i think those games could have been so much better- i have this sinking feeling Crysis will be the same. I dont really see the multi player crysis being all that great.

EA is the microsoft of the computer games industry these days.. and although they might not be the actual developer of some of the titles no doubt they put pressure on games release dates

Exactly, crytek is making the game, so if it turns out bad, it is their fault. If EA is pushing the release, they will be liable for the decrease in sales... Im sure crytek will get paid the same amount anyway!

Crytek no doubt gets paid on a deadline basis.. ie. lose money after a certain point enforced by EA.. therefore rushed project.. personally i feel the blame lies with EA
