Unfortunately, I can't offer any help.
But if you get H2 to run to a playable level on that laptop, I'd be REALLY impressed.

I run Raptor hard drives and they grind like hell when going into the game.
After the game launches and is sitting at the first screen, it's using right at 500MB of RAM. (I dunno what it's using during actual gameplay.)
Then there's the video problem .... most likely, your laptop is using system RAM for video. (Not good for gameplay.)

And on top of your hardware shortage, you're using a hack to start with.
I wish you luck ... but I'd say don't be too disappointed if it never works.

If you prove me wrong, I don't mind admitting I was wrong. :)

There are exceptions to every rule.
But it's been my experience that you can spend $2K on a laptop, and still not have a system comparable to a desktop of half that price.

Is halo 1 and 2 not same graph ? and you saying that "RAM for video. (Not good for gameplay.)" It sounds like you can fix it so it dont use ram, is that right ? :D

I don't understand this question.
What are you referring to?
Graphics??
If so, I'm speculating but I'll say no they are not using the same graphics engine. Or at least not the same version of it. ???
On my system, H2 looks much better than H1.
H1 is only using 100MB of system RAM to run vs. the 1/2GB that H2 uses.

Again you're asking me to speculate on your system configuration.
But the majority of the time, video cards in laptops have very little to no dedicated, onboard RAM.
Therefore, they're using shared memory. Which means they're using portions of your system RAM for video operation.
This is much slower than a graphics card with built in memory.
Not to mention the fact that whatever portion of your system RAM is being used by video, will NOT be available for the system to use.

The answer to your 2nd question would be, (Most likely) .... No.
You won't be able to turn that option off.
You might be able to go into the BIOS and decrease the amount of system RAM that the video uses.
But then you're decreasing your video RAM. It's counter productive.

There are people on here who know a hell of a lot more than I do.
Maybe they'll have some better answers for you.

well after reading the posts, the only thing I can think of (considering ur specs seem like they should run it, would be because you're using the crack for xp. i run tomb raider 2 on my xp rig but graphical glitches are rather rampant for my taste(says on the disc up to windows 98 only)...and as far as i knew halo 2 was made for vista...that could be it..i dont think ur specs are that weak to not play it but could be that too...or even both..but i dont play halo2 so I cant really be positive on my answer..just my experience with some things similar to this

Many of the new laptops are C2D, have 4MB Ram, 7200 rpm drives, and have video cards with Dedicated VRam, and some even have extra turbo cache. Only the lower end laptops have the onboard chip which gets its memory from your system Ram. Some of the Alienware and XPS systems can do quite well, with either a 7950GTX (*512 Vram), or Go 7900GS, or 8700M GT, etc...some even run SLI configs.

I know that laptops will never equal a desktop in gaming power, but they don't do half bad for being portable.

While that is true, the original quote still stands valid :P

The laptop gaming performance comes at a very high price.
