Steam!! GRR

Post by vicaphit »

So I just got the orange box, and installed the games, which had to then update before playing, which took about 6 hours on my dial up.

I tried getting into the games in offline mode today, and steam said "this game cannot be played in offline mode"

Is there any way around this? I cant have dialup running all the time, and I dont want to have to log in to play.

Any help would be awesome.

HL2, Episode 1, CS, HL1, Garry's mod...etc. All work in offline. The new ones from the orange box dont work in offline! Just makes me mad I guess. I can log onto the net, load steam in online mode, then disconnect the internet, and it will allow the games to work though. It is just a pain in the arse

It's increasingly rare to find someone who is still using "dial-up". No high speed in your area?

I always wondered how companies like Netzero can afford to advertise...I'm like, who's buying this obsolete technology!

Sorry I'm no help. I use cable and have no practical experience with dial-up. I've never tried unplugging my cable after connecting to Steam to see if my games will play offline. Good Luck!

I live 4 miles from the nearest town. We have gotten a couple calls from verizon for DSL inqueries, but I guess there isn't enough demand... Hicks like working on crappy cars, not computers.

Valve really doesn't seem to care much about their customers. I think the games can only be played in offline mode when they've been updated to be allowed to do so. It's pretty damn stupid. Most people I've known who have had this same problem, pirate the game before Valve gets around to doing anything about it.
