Crysis very high setting in XP

Post by smack323 »

i didnt want to link other sites, nor do i want credit for discovering this- so in a nut shell you can enable the very high setting in XP by doing the following.. i have seen screen shot and it looks identical to the DX10 version- sunbeams, blured vison ect. try it out on the demo! apparently the frame rates are better in XP than Vista -i dont hae Vista so i cant test both- if any one can dual boot maybe you can check it out and let us know. maybe post some pics if you want to find out more just Google "Crysis dx10 in XP" that should point you in the right direction. i am not claiming dx10 runs in XP or anything- all i know is this makes Crysis look much better than what the demo allows it to in XP with no tweek

First go here:
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Game\Config
Open up the file named "highspec.cfg"
And simply change the 3 to a 4.
Now every high is actually very high.

From what I hear, some of the very high options work in xp but weren't supposed to initially. Crytek originally said they were DX10 only, but they still work in DX9

The very high settings are unavailable in XP (the hack above probably works). However, if I attempt to run it even @ high I get stuttering etc. and I am running the system in my sig with the GX2 (SLI) cranked up to 600Mhz. Runs good on medium and looks good too. I'm gonna have to get me a QX9650

Crysis...Is...Amazing

The environments are huge! I kept storming a base and dying, and after every reload I could go a completely different direction. Enemies flank, emerge from the forrest at in-oportune times, and act with really good AI.

I'm using medium settings. I set object detail to low so I could bump up other settings, and the game STILL looks beautiful!
Here if my system incase you want to compare:
AMD Athlon X2 +4000
2 Gigs of ram (crappy cheap ram)
XFX 7600GT 256MB

I reccomend this game to everyone who has the system to run it!

I can't even run at High settings to a degree of play that is acceptable to me. All settings on high puts me about 22-25fps. All medium makes it a little better...35 or so. With all medium and water, sound and particle quality on low it runs around around 55-60, unless I cloak (80% of time) and it takes a 5-10fps hit.

I haven't updated my drivers in a while, so I'm hoping that will help me get back to high settings.

i think its just dumb that even though the game works on very high in XP if you have the hardware to support it. they have it disabled unless your running Vista.

They have it disabled unless you have DX10. Those features are supposed to be DX10 only.

Tweakguides.com has a good article on the settings so you can figure out the best way to configure them for the game to run smoothly on your PC.

Initially installed Crysis in Vista.
All medium settings is the best I could get with my setup.

Installed it on XP last night and bumped everything to High.
Works great!
It's almost like playing in a movie rather than a PC game.

Got in a multi player match tonight. (After purchasing a SECOND copy for my son and I to play together.)

Biggest disappointment in a game for me in a long time. :(
You have to BUY weapons?? And ammo?? And weapon accessories??
What good is a sniper rifle without a damn scope?
And apparently you can only purchase at respawn??

There is no free for all mode??
No campaign co-op play??

I hope somebody can tell me I'm wrong.
Hell I don't even care to finish the single player mode now.

But hey .... it's still pretty even in multi player!
