what makes Crysis so hard to run?

OK the graphics are great. We know this. triple sli to break 30fps? Come on that is a bit...absurd?
I do see a dramtic difference when heavy shaders are applied vs none. As well as shadows. Going from screenshots. You have to study the pics to see what pics are better from medium to high and then high to very high.
If its that close why is it easily ran by a mid range comp on medium and near impossible to run max on any computer.
I'm sure there is a post somewhere on this if there is feel free to delete and redirect me. But, I see nothing of this nature in the forums.

think part of it is bad coding of the game... The first patch was supposed to give a double digit gain in performance... if a patch brings that type of performance boost it usually means something has been optimized incorrectly. The first patch is delayed though... was supposed to be two weeks after the game came out back in November... It's still not here.

that would make more sense. Because the settings on medium I get 30-40 fps, high. I'm lucky to break 8. That is a huge difference considering med looks almost the same.
