Probably get better feed back in the "All About The Games Section"

I'd start by checking to see what version of DirectX you currently have, (instructions at the link provided below) then download the latest 9.0c and see if it installs to eliminate DirectX as the suspect. They have a DirectX 10/10.1 for Vista Only, so you might have that already (doubt it I think Vista shipped with 9.0c). I don't know that you need dx10/10.1 lot of the guys say it's about the same as 9.0c. Once you have downloaded and installed it try Farcry again but skip the Adobe Reader/DirectX install on the Farcry disk and proceed to the game install (If it lets you).
Here's the link to the Microsoft DirectX solution center http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... ;DE;drxint

Hold off installing all the drivers until you have them all downloaded.

Other common issues with games, make sure you download the latest motherboard drivers from here http://www.xfxforce.com/web/support/sea ... tCode.jspa motherboard code "MB-680-ilt9" (Install motherboard/sound pretty much all the drivers except bios flash which I don't do unless I really need it)

Then download driver cleaner pro from here http://www.overclock.net/downloads/1384 ... 1-5-a.html
Then Download the latest nVidea Forceware here (you need to know if it's Vista 32 or Vista 64, it's probably 32)http://www.evga.com/8800driver/
EDIT:Now we know it's Vista 64
Install DirectX and reboot
Run driver cleaner pro (select nvidea in drop down) reboot
install nVidea Forceware then reboot
install Mobo drivers reboot as needed

Then you should be ready for about any video game install for a while, make sure you download the latest game patch (1.4) from herehttp://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/farcry/index.html

Farcry and Vista have some issues on different systems, as long as you download current drivers/forceware/directx and follow the instructions you can install knowing that if you have another issue it's probably a hot fix issue with Vista.

Your welcome to the help. Here's some info I found on FarCry and Vista. Found here: http://www.tweakguides.com/Farcry_3.html

So far that's the best info I've found on it. Looks like it might be hairy. One thing to try is open Windows explorer, navigate to C:\program Files and open it, look for and delete the Xfire directory (Only the xfire directory, and make sure it's the xfire directory). If some files got installed they might be interfering with the downloaded version. If it's an option I would try to install the game with out Xfire cause it's looking to be a major pain.

CD-ROM Problems/Errors during installation: The official solution is here. Initially you should try updating all your device drivers, especially your motherboard drivers and CD/DVD firmware. Obviously you'll also need to use the original copy of the game CD, and if you see any Windows errors during installation attempt to ignore them and continue. If you get the "Error 1311" message then first try this solution from Microsoft. If that doesn't work, copy all the CD contents to your hard drive and attempt to install from there. Despite all this, there is still a major issue with Far Cry's compatibility with certain CD/DVD drives (see below) and emulation/burning software. Essentially you may be forced to disable or even uninstall any emulation/burning software especially Alcohol, CloneCD, and in some cases even Nero. This is due to Far Cry's SecuROM copy protection system.

DVD Drive Incompatibilities: If you have the DVD edition of Far Cry, and one of the DVD drives listed here then unfortunately it's unlikely you'll be able to run the Far Cry disk to install and run the game. Ubisoft has announced that these drives are "incompatible" with the Far Cry DVD edition. Attempt to update your drive's firmware as suggested above, and also a solution suggested by some is to leave the Far Cry DVD in your DVD drive for an extended period (e.g. 15 minutes) and it may eventually launch installation. Again these issues are largely due to Far Cry's copy protection system. Don't write to tell me it sucks, I already agree with you.
