Allright, I finally bought HL2. I have a question for you people with top notch PCs. Do you experience lag with shoting and getting shot with CS:Source? What are your results for the video stress test?
I have a Barton 2500+, 1 GB 3200 Corsair ValueRam, 9700 Pro and I get around 80 frames per second on the video stress test. Granted I haven't tried in CS:Source yet, but this seems like I have enough power that I shouldn't experience any lag when playing CS:Source.
I am trying to see if this is a coding (Steam/Valve) problem, or if my computer just isn't fast enough.

I was running a a 9800 Pro on a DFI LAN Party A with 1GB Mushkin blac and a 3200+ and had some stuttering. I recently switched out for a 6800 Ultra and won some RAM and I am enjoying HL2 right now. Awesome looking game IMHO.

I notice no stuttering unless it is net-lag related. When i play HL2-DM everything is awsome, but then i do have a highend pc and run at very high res. 1920x1200.

Jeezus valence, 1900x1200? Dual screened?
If you set your settings correctly you should not notice any lag. In HL2 with the preset settings for my 9800 pro and 3400+ and 512mb ram i was feeling fine.

Your system seems to be pretty avg when you consider what most are playing with, at least according to the Valve online survey.
With my AMD system, I generally hit about 160 FPS, and with the Intel system about 153 FPS on the video stress test, but those are both O/Ced with top of the line everything.

He might be talking about the sticking you get when you get shot which is part of the game. Its not actually because of your hardware but its because of Source engine. I wish they'd fix that though because it doesn't seem very realistic.

You guys really need to do a search on connection rates for css, if you aint got them set right for your connection and ping, then you WILL really suck at that game
