Valve, HL 2, and Steam

The more I play HL 2 Deathmatch on line, the less impressed I am.
How many of you currently play? What is your general impression of the game? What servers are your favorites?

I am not a fan of Steam at all. It seemed like a good concept to have like a buddy list and automatically keep your stuff up-to-date, but having to load steam all the time... no, that doesn't fly with me very well. I remember playing CS 1.6 and it only took a matter of seconds for the program to open and connect to a server. Now I have to wait for Steam to open, steam to connect, check for updates, download updates if any (or download them for the 18th time...), then it has to launch the game, load (yea... this is necessary 'cause it's a new generation game, oh well), then connect to the server finally.

It was much easier previously, less CPU and bandwidth intensive too.

If I play any HL2, I'm still stuck in CS:S. My favorite server would be mine, because it's a 32 player server that's full damn near every minute of the day, 24 hours a day.

Just as a note, I don't play online. Steam is alright, but I love this game in single player mode, and am content for now playing this. I used to love multiplayer, but seems like I have really gotten away from it.
Does life get any better then this!!
