CS:S April 1st Update

Wow... brings back the days of CS 1.1 when you could bunny hop. I like the jumping part, but the AWP is having a price cut? Come on that is just crazy. I'm lost on the whole gun maintence stuff. The game isn't realistic anyway, so why include gun cleaning.
Friday, April 1 2005

An update is available for Counter-Strike: Source. The update will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. This update addresses requests for more realism in Counter-Strike: Source. The changes are as follows:

Features/Additions
Doubled player speed when jumping. The effect to cumulative, so the more you jump, the faster you go.
Cut price of AWP by 50%.
Added akimbo Riot Shield to buy menu.
Removed de_dust from mapcycle.
Realism Enhancements:

Knives:
Between rounds, it is suggested that you unsheath the weapon and repeatedly press the attack key to air it out as the leather now collects moisture and creates pits on the blade, making it less effective in the next round.

Shotguns:
1. Firing the shotgun without ammo loaded will now cause it to jam.
2. When the shotgun jams, press F2 to fill out form DA-1823-00/A12-H8.
3. You should then hear a scribbling sound. When it stops, press F3 to send the request to LIDM.
4. Failure to do paperwork before pressing F3 will result in the immediate return of the unrepaired shotgun.
5. The repairs can take 1-2 rounds for completion. During that time, you cannot purchase a replacement firearm and may only use your sidearm or knife.

Player Models:
Several models now feature eyewear. This is a completely cosmetic enhancement with the following exceptions:

Part EP-7829-292-2 must be purchased and worn correctly at all times in order to see during the round.

In between rounds, you may purchase and use part EC-2231-833-H34 to clean your EP-7829-292-2. Note: that this does not clean the eyewear itself!

To clean the eyewear, you need to purchase and use the designated cleaner, EC-2231-233-H34, EC-2231-523-H34, or EC-2231-239-H34a respectively depending on your model's eyewear. You can determine the part # of the correct cleaner by asking someone.

Machine and submachine guns:

At least once every five rounds, press F1 to inspect the weapon:
A musical cue indicates that the inspection has started. Now press F1 again repeatedly to clean and lubricate the weapon.

Your Preventative Maintenance Status (either "cleaning" or "lubricating") is determined by the speed with which you press the F1 key and will be displayed above your head.

To accurately simulate real life maintenance mistakes, pressing F1 too quickly will lubricate either the bolt face or the trunnion block. Pressing F1 too slowly sprays lubricant directly into the buffer tube. All mistakes render the gun inoperable, though this may not become immediately apparent.

Experiment with keypress timing to avoid (and discover!) other common maintenance errors.

In order to balance the improved stopping power of a well-maintained weapon, the reloading process has been made much less reliable.

When reloading, you should listen for two or three distinct clicks over a period of several seconds.

If you hear one click or no clicks or more than two clicks, you've bent the link ejector chute and the gun will most likely explode on the next attempt to fire it, though it may not.
Oh wait this was just an April Fools Day Joke!

I'm a big addvocate of making the game more realistic...there are too many games using the same type of strategies and techniques.
1. Make sniper rifles less accurate when moving. I'm not sure how many of you have shooting experience, but if you do, and have used a sniper rifle, then you know there is NO accuracy while moving...and especially jumping
2. I've never seen anyone jump repeatedly while being shot at. I find it ridiculous to get killed with a head shot from some guy jumping like a jackrabbit 300 yards away with a sniper rifle.
3. New maps, with more than one or two choke points.....make it fair, and realistic, when a persons life is on the line, they aren't going to rush a choke point.
4. let there be a prone position, kind of sucks that you can't get in the prone, especially where there are short things or grass to use as concealement.
5. Stop putting people names on their body. Some of these snipers never see their target, simply waiting for a big red or blue name to pop up, then firing a shot while jumping from 300 yards away.
Anyway, thats my two cents on this topic....Could be a great game, but some people just abuse the hell out of every little hack and glitch.

I wholeheartedly agree with you capper. You have no acc with awp while running, but with scout you can almost always get a half decent shot off while running.

Haha @ the jumping :P but yeah, you jump, and land and fire one off and kill someone, how real is that?

Maps and chokes, d2 has 4 pretty much. Theres a darn good map out thats custom, de_assault_upc or something like that thats so open, its awesome.

Prone would be extremely nice!

The names lol. Yeah, in the dark you can use those to pinpoint players, also at long distances, its quite horrendous :(

something you have to understand....from a guy who used to do this stuff for a living is that scopes are not accurate while on the move, regardless of the weapon type. I've seen games where breathing affects accuracy, movement affects accuracy, etc. I'm just sayiing there are some fixes that could make this an awesome game, not just an adequate or good game.

Yes, what game is it, farcry? The scope moves, its so nice. I wish cs was like that :(

Edit: the simple thing is that they are scared to change it. They originally created it what, like 5 years ago? A longgg time ago, and they are afraid to change it because of how used to the game all the players are. You remember when 1.6 came out and everyone got so pissed @ the new fastswitch lag on the awp and the shield?

yeah, but there are glitches that just ruin the game for people who like the realism. mean, you have kids hiding behind stuff jumping like morons, with sniper rifles.....head shotting p-eople from 250-300m....just totally unrealistic.
Oh, i also think that you shouldn't be able to turn off friendly fire....
I understand them being afraid to change it, but there reaches a point where the game is only fun for the few who hack or the guys who work the glitches...Look at HL2 Deathmatch....those servers are dead anymore

i think that if you are looking for realism, you look elsewhere. simply put, CS is a very very basic and easy to learn FPS that people play for fun, rather then realism.

And they give ability to turn off FF due to some problems with people... I love ff servers, but today i was in a server and a bunch of myg0ts came in(FYI, a "raging" clan, whos intent is to piss off everyone with hacks, tk, and spam). Lets just say they tked every chance they had...

Believe it or not....everything is there in CS:Source to make it a very realistic game, and excellent trainer for real world tactics....maybe thats what frustrates me so much...it could be a great game, not just a good game....wasted potential.

I agree with you there.

They made the weaponry alot more realistic in Source than it was in 1.6 and the funny thing is seeing how many people complain about it! Its called realism!!

Its also a game, its all well and good to have realism but in the end every one need to remember that its a game. honestly i dont care if people cheat, i think the last time i played with nate i averaged about 3-5 seconds of game play per round. yes i reall suck thta much, but i remembered that its a game and enjoyed myself anyway. at the end of the night when i logged off i knew i had a good time :)

You say that because you suck....like me. I think we should haver big orange hunting vest and "hot dog on a stick"hats......
the whole point to making a game klike this is realism, you want just a game? There Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Ever Quest, etc.....no worry of realism there.

Yeah I enjoy CS because its a tactical, team-based, FPS instead of being like UT2004 where you just run around killing everything. Sure that can be fun but after awhile it gets old.
