Source: MyDrivers"From today's ATI London news conference, it is stated that Microsoft set the lowest display standard of XBOX360 to be 720p+4xAA. ATI technology expert Rene Froeleke told reporters, Microsoft required that every XBOX360 game must run at 1280x720 resolution with 4xAA on, and a 60FPS must be maintained so that no quality is lost. Reporter asked why not 1080p, Rene told reporters that not that many Europeans has 720p displays yet, so don't even mention 1080p just yet.
Because XBox360 GPU contains 10MB eDRAM, 4xAA is "completely free". XBox360's GPU technology completely complies to needs of WGF1.0 (DirectX 9.0c). However, it lacks to meet WGF2.0 standards but is very close. Rene stated, XBox360's GPU's capability is even greater than a 32pipeline GPU of current generation. XBox360's GPU marchitecture cannot be compared to the marchitecture of ATI's PC GPU."
