Well, I've checked it out, and I'm seriously impressed.
Give the demo a try, and if you like it, the release date is June 22nd.

i saw video clips of the bf2 gameplay... i was let down and not impressed.
why? let me tell you....
the tanks frigging disappear after they blow up...
the physics isn't as good as the source engine...
and that's about it.
on the other hand, i was impressed with the lighting/shading.

Well, this is in effort to keep polygons to a minimum as many many users don't have high end systems, such as myself. I have a 2600+ w/ a 9800 Pro and a 2.8GHz P4 w/ a Mobility 9700. It runs great on both with medium settings, but when you get too many polygons and junk on the screen, it's a killer.

No doubt the rag-doll physics of the Half-Life 2 engine are far superior. I don't think BF2 is meant to have people flopping around like that though. The area of play is so large it's not really needed at this point. Besides, that's just more crap that the server and client have to process. I also agree on the aspect of HL2, you can actually fall a few inches w/o getting hurt, where I noticed in ALL of the Battlefield games, you can fall an inch and get hurt or die. Lame physics right there. I jumped and fell an extra two inches from a decline in the terrain, in the BF2 demo, and got hurt....
I'm still very interested in the game. They haven't shown you a lot of what's in the game. They offer a few vehicles and a few weapons to what I understand. So, there will be a lot more to the game!
BTW, I will have a 32 Player BF2 server up as soon as the Linux dedicated server is available!

I'm running 1024x768... so, it's a video problem on your end! ;) ATI's 5.5 drivers are known to cause problems with BF2, 5.6 may also do the same, EA isn't 100% sure yet. So, if you have an ATI card, change back to older drivers and it'll work fine.

For a FPS it has a bit of a learning curve.
Keep in mind I never played battlefield 1942

My brother has a 6800GT in his system and doesn't have any problems... Hmm... very interesting. He has it at I believe 1024x768 with everything maxed out. Looks outstanding and has a nice high, stable framerate, BTW.
The only problem he has with BF2 and every other game, is with the NForce drivers and his SATA HDD. It lags a bit b/c of the NForce drivers, so he's gotta roll back.

i'll have to try that again... maybe i had it on another setting, but i doubt it. the way i found out about the resolution thing was from various forums i found on google. TONS of people are having the same problem and the resolution thing fixed it for most of them. there were a handful that it didn't help.

Just downloaded it and played it last night for the first time. Everything works fine on my system at 1024x768 with everything maxed out on the x800xt w/ 5.5 drivers. Not too shabby.

Demo Issues

There has been a few people experiencing the same problem. Most of which have something in common, they all have an Ati video card. For all of you having the game crash to desktop on launch, you're in luck. We might have a possible solution for you!
Try downloading these drivers: Omega Radeon Catalyst v2.6.0.5a (5.1)
Update: In testing the demo, EA has encountered some visual issues on certain ATI cards with the previous Catalyst drivers (5.5) and are working with yesterday's 5.6 release to discover if the issue is resolved. If in playing the Battlefield 2 demo you encounter texture corruption of any kind, we recommend rolling back to the Catalyst 5.1 drivers. ATI is aware of this issue and is working to resolve it.

Sure you can, it's just a million times harder than CS. I snipe people in the head all the time (or try to anyway), it's just my style! ;)
Oh, and my brothers NForce drivers weren't the problem... it was the brand new hard drive itself. It took a dump last night...

Good ol' Maxtor SATA HDD.

He got it to start up this morning one last time, so he made sure to back his stuff up! He's lucky 'cause he had a lot of work and some redesign for my website on the drive!

Finally starting to get the hang of things! This was on the MEC side as a Special Forces Soldier the entire time. I really do enjoy BF2 and look forward to the full version.

Picked up the full version.
Once they get the bugs cleaned out after a couple hundred patches like BF1942 it should be ok ;) Hopefully getting a LAN going at my place for it sometime soon to try it out with 16 people.
