Old School PC Games? Independence War 2

Are there any old school PC games you just have to dust off every now and then and play no matter how awesome your new rig might be? I have a few that I can't ever seem to get tired of or beat.
Lately a co-workers been going on and on about FireFly and how cool it is/was. That got me to thinking about the old space combat simulator like Privateer, Freelancer, and one of my favorites: Independence War 2.
I love Independence War 2 because it blends the old school fun of Privateer's ship customizing and space piracy with real newtonian physics which makes the game have a wicked steep learning curve. On a modern PC the game is extremely fluid even at 1920x1200 but the cut scene graphics are... well, dated seems to be the word.
Given that the Privateer style game seems to have died in favor of the FPS this is about the only game that I'm really aware of that's like it. I'd heard good things about Taychon: The Fringe and I love Bruce Cambell but I've not been able to find a copy. Anyone played I-War 2 or Tachyon?
