Press Release: Buy an Athlon 64 rig & Get Far Cry FREE

Post by Apoptosis »

SUNNYVALE, CALIF.-May 18, 2004-AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced availability of Ubisoft's impressive Far Cry PC game with the purchase of any AMD Athlon(tm) 64 FX or
AMD Athlon 64 processor-based system from participating system builders worldwide through June 2004 or while supplies last.

"Far Cry is among the first of many games that will tap into the incredible power and possibility offered by AMD Athlon 64 processors," said Henri Richard, executive vice president, worldwide sales and marketing, AMD. "With AMD offering the best 32-bit performance available today and gaming developers already using 64-bit computing environments to build unprecedented realism into their products, 32-bit only technology is no longer a barrier to the imagination of creators. With AMD64 platforms, games can now be created on, served on, and played on the award-winning next-generation technology."

"We are offering customers a unique experience to explore high drama and realism with Far Cry's incredible lighting and shadows, adaptive audio, weather effects and revolutionary character physics," said Jay Cohen, vice president of publishing, Ubisoft. "With the AMD Athlon 64 FX and AMD Athlon 64 processors' unprecedented performance on Far Cry, the game can be played the way we envisioned and PC buyers can truly realize extreme gaming."

Meticulously designed, Far Cry pushes the 32-bit threshold of game action with highly developed physics, destructible terrain, dynamic lighting, motion-captured animation, proprietary Polybump technology and total surround sound. These technical advancements result in cinematic-quality gaming, where players are immersed in the action and experience.

Based on AMD64 technology, the AMD Athlon 64 FX and AMD Athlon 64 processors are designed to offer outstanding 32-bit performance today with the capability to move into
the 64-bit future. Like all AMD64 processors, these processors also have the added security benefit of Enhanced Virus Protection technology. This technology, enabled by the upcoming Microsoft(r) Windows(r) XP Service Pack 2, can prevent the execution of certain types of malicious viruses.

The award-winning AMD Athlon 64 desktop processors also feature Cool'n'Quiet(tm) technology, an innovative system-level feature that lowers the power consumption of the PC when maximum performance is not needed. A PC with AMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology enabled will consume less power, and run cooler and quieter on most applications.

They learned from ati and are giving away a game that exists. Much better idea than giving out dare i say vaporware

This is from AMD's site:

"Coming Soon – Get a FREE copy of Far Cry™ when you purchase an AMD Athlon™ 64 or AMD Athlon 64 FX processor from participating companies. Check back in the next few weeks for details."

It does not say system.... it says processor. This would be nice if you could just buy a processor and get the game for free. If so, I may go ahead and order my AMD64 from NewEgg (if they are one of the companies)
