Battlefield 3 LAN - I am going to be hosting a LAN party next month and on of the games I would like to play since 90% of the participants have is BF3. However I have been searching the internet and cant come up with any info on how many player could reasonably play off of one home internet connection.
I ran a speed test and currently my speeds are.
12.5mb down
1.43mb up
I have played with three people on this connection with out any problems - just wondering if anyone else my have any idea what number of players could use one connection.
Secondly - does anyone have any games they would suggest? free would be best.

Re: BF3 LAN question
Are you running the LAN party only through your LAN or everyone is going to connect to the internet and play? Is everyone going to connect to the network on the wired side? What do the ethernet ports on your router run at (100Mbps or 1Gbps)? I don't think games really saturate the bandwidth of your internet but I imagine the more people connected you might notice higher latencies.
Sorry I don't know of any free games that would suit your needs.
Have fun and after this LAN party you'll know if you can pull it off again.

Re: BF3 LAN question
I have a 1GB 8 port switch - and cat6 on all my PC in the home. I am not providing all the wireing fro everyone so some may be on cat5. But the problem with BF3 is that you have to be connected to the internet to play. IE: you cant host a local LAN game.

Re: BF3 LAN question
Yeah, forgot about the stupid Origin. Either LAN or online I think you'll be fine. Like I said most online games don't really tax a connection that hard.
Re: BF3 LAN question
yeah I miss games that games are moving away from letting you host a local deathmatch. COD:World at war was the best thing most recently that let you host on your lan and play four player co-op..
I called Uverse and what do you know I was able to get an upgrade to their fastest connection - 22down-3mb up for free. and a better TV package for the same price.. and they thru in HBO and Cinamax for 3 months to boot.

Sweet! I bet with 10 bodies giving off 98.6 degrees plus PCs and monitors it was pretty toasty in there.
