Ok so im getting really pissed of at my mum who wont let me play HL2:Ep1, im 19 for crying out loud

I only have to put up with it for the summer till i move out back to uni, cant come soon enough.

But one of her favourite quotes is that im being de-sensitised to violence!?!?!?!? I might start playing GTA to show her what computer game violence is all about!

Please can you guy's back me up with statistics and witty comebacks so i can prove that video games are not bad. I dont think she realises the difference between fantisy and reality. Grr!

/Rant

Strange how all the media hype filters back to personal life :P

Tell her if you weren't busy playing games, you might be tempted to try crack and heroine.

Tell her that if after you play violent games, you don't feel like being violent in real life. :axe: :)

The annoying thing is that its not even a particually violent game!

Anyone know of any resaerch done into the correlation between mass murderers and game players? Or any statistics that prove that lots of normal people play games and are ok.

You in the UK? You're 19? You've got the perfect come back!

"Mum, you ever listen to a band called the Beatles? You know, Helter Skelter? Well that's what drove Charlie Manson to commit murder. How bout it mum? Feel like spilling any claret these days?"

Bah, tell you're mother you can either play games or watch MTV. I believe MTV is much more harmful to youth than video games (unless you are a Korean MMO player).

You should try http://www.gopostal.com, it's often frown upon also. The demo is actually pretty good and lets you play online.

If you were 10 you might try to use this article.

I have yet to read anything that says violent games "will" have an adverse effect. Everything always says "may" or "could"... then the media jumps on it and freaks parents out. After all, "may" or "might" won't bring the ratings in.

haha, It's been a while hasnt it. Well I got to move out to uni and build my own PC now so I can play whatever I want now. Though it still fustrates me when people blame violence on videogames, take germany right now, they are proposing a law that can imprison you if you make/develop/sell/play violent videogames. GRRR!!!

wow that is pretty strict...

I think Crytek is still based in Germany:

Crytek GmbH
Hanauer Landstraße 523
60386 Frankfurt
Germany

Would suck to see them have to move out of the country -- I'm sure they would lose key people not wanting to move.
