You've been hearing about the WON servers getting shut down for a while, and now they're finally going to go down. All I have to say is, it's about time.

Valve Software announced today in a press release and a short note posted on the Steam Web site that it will be shutting down its WON authentication servers starting July 26 and ending July 31. As a result, in order to play Valve's games online, including Counter-Strike, Half-Life, and Day of Defeat, players will have to download and use Valve's free Steam service.

So, does this mean that software like Gamespy will not work with the Half-Life games any more?

Games Like Half-Life & it's spin offs (counter-strike & such) have been run under valve and now they are moving over to steam. So for Counter-Strike players all they have to do is update from version 1.5 to 1.6 and everything will be fine. ;)
