Samsung Announces Its OpenCable(TM) High Definition DVR for tru2way(TM)

NEW ORLEANS -- May. 19, 2008 Samsung today announced the availability of its OpenCable(TM) High Definition DVR for tru2way(TM) digital cable deployments. Tru2way(TM) refers to interactive digital cable services delivered over the cable video network. Cable operators have committed to deploy support for the tru2way platform in service areas covering more than 90 million U.S. homes by the end of 2008.

The SMT-3090 has 2 HD tuners capable of decoding MPEG-2, H.264, VC-1 and AC-3 content and a 160 Gigabyte hard drive that can store up to 20 hours of HD content. With its CableCARD(TM) interface and DSG modem for DOCSIS(R) support, the SMT-3090 gives operators a solution for their tru2way(TM) digital cable deployments.

In conjunction, Samsung will demonstrate the following capabilities on May 18-20 at CableNET(TM), part of The National Cable & Telecommunications Association 2008 Cable Show in New Orleans:

-- SMT-3090 Dual Tuner tru2way(TM) HD DVR SMT-3090 tru2way(TM) DVR will use a Mulitistream CableCARD to simultaneously decrypt and record two streams of digital cable to a 160 GB HDD. It also includes a DOCSIS 2.0 Modem for interactive communication to the headend.

-- Samsung tru2way(TM) STB with DCAS Functionality Samsung tru2way(TM) Set Top box has the capability to download secure client software from a DCAS cable H/E and store it to the secure microchip embedded in the STB. The STB can decrypt an encrypted Video Stream with a matched CAS key.

-- Samsung tru2way(TM) STB with DPI Functionality In communication with the H/E the Decision Engine and Switch Engine direct targeted ads based on viewing patterns.

-- Samsung tru2way(TM) client with web extension Samsung tru2way(TM) Set Top box has the capability to support blended services including broadcast and web content.

-- Samsung tru2way(TM) LCD TV with Multistream CableCard support.

CableNET(TM) is a technology showcase, as part of the 2008 Cable Show, that highlights next-generation broadband technologies and services that operators expect to deliver to consumers in the near term.
