(ST. PAUL, Minn.) - Sanus Systems® is now shipping the Sanus Elements™ ELM203, the second product within the Elements Surge Protection Series to be released this year, which allows audio/video users the ability to safeguard their electronic components and flat-panel TVs against damaging power surges.

"The ELM203 Low-Profile Surge Protector is an inexpensive way to incorporate surge protection into any home theater or audio system," said Jason Schmidt, product manager for Sanus. "We've designed this product so it can be placed behind a wall-mounted TV or a piece of AV furniture sight unseen - You'll never notice it's there until you need it," Schmidt added.

The ELM203 offers 2,100-Joule protection and EMI/RFI noise filtration at a product depth of just 1.37 inches. The surge protector also offers RJ45/RJ11 connection for phone and Ethernet protection and includes a 6-foot coaxial cable for cable or satellite signals and a 6-foot phone cord.

Features include four swiveling outlets that can rotate 90 degrees to the left or right, allowing cables to sit nearly flush with the wall for added convenience and flexibility. The unit also includes lights for wire and ground and a Sanus logo that illuminates when the unit receives power, indicating to the user the product has been properly installed.

The ELM203 is currently available in black for a list price of $34.99 USD. Other products within the Sanus Elements™ Surge Protection Series include the ELM202 Low-Profile Surge Protector and the ELM205 Flat-Panel HD Power Conditioner and Surge Protector, which is set to ship in July.

I hope those jacks can rotate 90 degrees as right now, the TV would be in the way of the plug.

As a home theater installer (part time) and home theater enthusiast I don't know that I'd recommend Sanus to a customer over companies like Panamax or my personal favorite Tripp Lite. For most on wall home theater installs like that I find using something like the Panamax's extended jack works best. It's basically a dual outlet wired to a grounded extension cord that you run through the wall back to the surge suppressor.

In my bedroom theater for example the wall jack behind my plasma runs back into the walk in closet where it's connected directly to my Tripp Lite IsoBar surge suppressor and grounded. This puts the TV and other components on isolated circuits so I have no ground faults. Kinda cumbersome but defiantly the right way to do it.

I feel it's important to remind people at this point there IS a difference between a surge protector and a power strip. A power strip has no built in fuse or breaker to protect your equipment. I cannot recommend a good, quality surge protector enough. Recently a good friend of mine in Ballwin had his whole house basically nuked by an electrical strike. Over $25K in electronics damage that could have been averted with proper surge protection equipment.
