New GSM handset aimed at providing users with optimal multimedia functionality

Not a bad looking device with all the features that it has. The 2MP camera is a very nice touch. Too bad it's CDMA and not GSM though.
SEOUL, August 31, 2005 - Pantech, one of the world's leading mobile
communications groups - comprised of Pantech&Curitel Communications,
Inc., Pantech Co., Ltd., Pantech C&I Inc. and SKY Teletech - has
launched the PG-8000, a new GSM model with advanced camera and
multimedia functionality aimed at sophisticated handset users.
The PG-8000 is designed to resemble a digital camera (the "dica" look)
and features a 2 mega pixel camera and a wide, horizontal LCD display.
The phone is also geared towards music-oriented users and incorporates
an MP3 function, supporting MP3, AAC, and AAC+ files, while an FM tuner
is included for enhanced radio enjoyment.
Sung-Kyu Lee, President & CEO of Pantech Co., said: "Pantech is already
a leader, in terms of combining innovative design concepts with
increasingly advanced functionality. With the advent of the sleek
PG-8000 handset, we are looking to offer this unique combination to the
global market."
"The phone looks just like a digital camera and is likely to be
extremely popular with users who enjoy photography. Along with the
extensive music and entertainment applications, we feel that - in the
PG-8000 - we are offering users a groundbreaking new multimedia
experience," said Mr. Lee.
The PG-8000 also features an external memory card slot to provide extra
capacity for music files and is equipped with a phonebook that allows
convenient wireless transmission from mobile phones to PC and vice
versa. For the wireless data transmission, the PG-8000 supports IrDA and
Bluetooth function with USB PC Sync. The model also includes the TTS
(Text to speech) function for additional optimal phone use.
Pantech has a notable track record in the production of innovative
"dica" phones. Last year, Pantech affiliate Pantech&Curitel
Communications, Inc. launched the P1 handset, a CDMA camera phone - also
designed to look like a digital camera - which was recognized with a
"Good Design" award from the Korean Ministry of Commerce, Industry and
Energy.
