Intel Extreme Masters American Championship – Slots in the World Championship 2011 – A total of 60,200 US Dollar in prize purse
Cologne, October 14, 2010 – The Electronic Sports League (ESL) has successfully organised the first Continental Championship of the Intel Extreme Masters season V. The event took place on October 8 - 10, 2010 at the Comic Con in New York, USA. Americas' best players competed for their share of 60,200 US Dollar in prize purse and slots in the nearest World Championship which will take place at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany in March. The competition was held in three disciplines: Counter-Strike 1.6, Starcraft 2 and Quake Live. The event attracted a few thousand of people, a share of 96,000 which visited New York Comic Con this year.
The overall standings are as follows:
Counter-Strike 1.6:
1. Place: compLexity ($11,000 and a slot in the World Championship)
2. Place: Evil Geniuses ($5,500 and a slot in the World Championship)
3. Place: Loaded ($3,300)
Quake Live:
1. Place: Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson ($3,000 and a slot in the World Championship)
2. Place: Tim 'DaHanG' Fogarty ($1,500 and a slot in the World Championship)
3. Place: Sander 'Vo0' Kaasjager ($1,000 and a slot in the World Championship)
4. Place: Paul 'czm' Nelson ($700 and a slot in the World Championship)
Starcraft 2:
1. Place: Jian Carlo 'Fenix' Morayra Alejo ($4,000 and a slot in the World Championship)
2. Place: Kevin 'qxc.649' Riley ($2,000 and a slot in the World Championship)
3. Place: Chris 'HuK' Laranger ($1,200)
"The American Championship event in New York City is the best event we have ever had in North America," said Michal Blicharz, the Product Manager of the Intel Extreme Masters at Turtle Entertainment. "The number of people in the audience and their passion surpassed all our expectations," he added.
The event in New York was the first Continental Championship of the Intel Extreme Masters V which will have its final, the World Championship, at CeBIT 2011. The tournament will have its stops in Europe, Asia and America.
