Two new switches provide multiple cable connections

ESCONDIDO, Calif., March 23, 2011 - One Stop Systems, Inc. (OSS) introduces two new PCIe Gen 2 switches for PCIe over cable expansion. 1U SwitchesNow developers can cable from any server to multiple PCIe devices including expansion systems with multiple boards, disk arrays, memory devices, and GPU appliances. For devices that require limited bandwidth, the PCIe x1 switch accepts a x1 cable from a server or laptop and fans it out to seven x1 devices. Two switches can install into a 19" rack for rackmount installation to support up to sixteen x1 devices. For more robust systems requiring greater bandwidth, the eight-port x4 rackmount switch provides either a PCIe x16 connection or a PCIe x4 cable connection to the server. This larger switch provides eight PCIe x4 cable connectors to support up to eight devices.
"We've witnessed a greater number of PCIe over cable applications requiring multiple PCIe devices to operate simultaneously from the same host server," said Steve Cooper, CEO. "A PCIe switch provides a fan-out of the PCIe bus to multiple ports of varying bandwidth. The OSS switches are easily rackmountable or can be used as table-top appliances and provide multiple port counts to satisfy a number of application needs. The 1U switch provides eight x1 connectors from a single PCIe x1 input from a host server or laptop. Some OEMs use this switch to operate multiple x1 devices within a single machine. At 5Gb bandwidth, this is comparable to the USB 3.0 interface but with greater port counts. The PCIe x4 switch meets the application needs of OEMS requiring a rackmount solution to operate expansion systems, disk arrays, GPU appliances, and other downstream devices requiring 20Gb/s bandwidth, usually within a single rack."
Seven-port x1 switch
The seven-port x1 switch fans-out a single x1 interface to a host server or laptop to seven PCIe x1 devices. At only 8" wide and 1.6" tall, two of the compact eight-port units can be placed side-by-side in 1U of rack space providing up to fourteen PCIe x1 connectors. The switch can also be used as a table-top appliance, connecting several high speed I/O devices to a PC. The seven-port x1 switch (OSS-PCIe-1U-SW-x1-2.0) lists at $1,499 and is available immediately.
Eight-port x4 switch
The eight-port x4 switch accepts either a x16 or a x4 connection to the host server and provides eight x4 connections to IO devices.
The eight-port x4 switch (OSS-PCIe-1U-SW-x4-2.0) lists for $2,950 and is available immediately.
