Thomas C. Stortz Rejoins Level 3 as Chief Administrative Officer

Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: LVLT) announced today that Thomas C. Stortz has been named executive vice president, chief administrative officer and secretary for the company with a broad range of responsibilities. Stortz, who had served as the company's chief legal officer since 1998, announced his retirement at the end of last year.

"I am particularly pleased that Tom has agreed to return in this important role," said Level 3 CEO James Crowe. "I have relied on Tom's counsel for many years and asked him to rejoin the management team at this transformational time as we navigate the acquisition of Global Crossing. He will advise me on a range of issues, and importantly, work with me and the board of directors to ensure a smooth transition."

In addition to his work with the board of directors and senior management team, the senior executives responsible for the legal, human resources and corporate communications groups of the company will report to Stortz.
