【TAIPEI】MSI, the global leading brand in touch screen PC, is insured its first Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) insurance policy by Union Insurance Company. In an attempt to echo its eco-friendly products to European consumers, MSI purchased a number of NTD 50 million (USD1.65M) insurance coverage targets the recent shipment of All-in-one PCs to European Union.

Union Insurance Company gives high regards for this cooperation. Vincent Lai, the Assistant Vice President-Corporate Marketing Department of MSI, proudly states: "MSI always comes out on top when it comes to corporate social responsibility and green policy. This cooperation, we hope, leads local industries to focus on the health of consumers and environment worldwide so as to create a low-carbon economy.

MSI Got Its First IT Industry RoHS Insurance
In respond to the flourish green trend, EU has implemented the RoHS directive, took effect on 1 July 2006. The directive restricted the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipments, aims to protect the human health and the environment safety from e-waste. To cope with RoHS standard, Union Insurance Company has launched the "Union RoHS Comprehensive Insurance" on July, the first of its kind in the world, realizing the "green insurance" prospect. MSI is the first to buy the first "green" insurance (RoHS insurance) in the IT industry, and the premium calculation will be on a shipment-based level. The insurance coverage of the first shipment is NTD 50 million (USD1.65M), and is expected to continue according to MSI's global supply chain conditions in the future.

Rated Lowest Risk Level One
Bob Tsai, manager of Corporate Sustainability Office of MSI, is confident of MSI's full range of products meeting the global green standards. MSI has completed vendor investigations and converted manufacturing components to lead-free materials to comply with RoHS directives. As for the upcoming uncertainties of recast provisions of EU and China RoHS, MSI has found the risk management mechanism through RoHS insurance and shows its responsibility on green topics. It is worth pointing out that under Hazardous Substance Management (HSM) assessment from Union Insurance Company, including that of on-site inspection), MSI is rated risk level one (the lowest risk level). Therefore, MSI qualifies to get the maximum insurance coverage in a rather reasonable premium.
