-The entire NEIS server population will be based on AMD Opteron(tm) processors -
SEOUL, Korea-Oct. 20, 2005-AMD (NSYE:AMD) today announced the Ministry
of Education & Human Resources Development of Korea has selected the AMD
Opteron(tm) processor to power its server systems for the National
Education Information System Project (NEIS).
The NEIS project, establishing an online education information system to
improve teachers' working environments and increase efficiency of
national educational administrations, is the largest IT project in 2005
in Korea and will service over 10,000 schools and education offices
nationwide. Samsung SDS is a primary solution provider in Korea and will
supply NEIS with thousands of AMD Opteron(tm) processor-based servers
through partnerships with Sun Microsystems and HP.
"AMD's innovations in server processing technology are capturing the
attention of data center managers in government, education, and
corporate environments in Korea and worldwide," said Kevin Knox, vice
president, Worldwide Commercial Business, AMD. "The streamlined
performance of our Direct Connect Architecture, true dual-core
processing capability and the opportunity for increased savings for
customers in power consumption and cooling costs, as well as alliances
with key OEMs and solution providers, produce an outstanding solution
for large IT projects."
About the AMD Opteron(tm) Processor
More than 75 percent of the top 100 of the Forbes Global 2000 companies
or their affiliates, representing the world's most competitive
industries, now use AMD
Opteron(tm) processor-based systems to run applications at new levels of
performance. The AMD Opteron processor, based on AMD64 technology with
Direct Connect Architecture, made history as the industry's first x86
multi-core processor for servers and workstations that is both 32- and
64-bit capable. Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors can deliver higher
performance within the same power envelope as single-core processors
because they were designed from the ground up for multi-core computing.
With a broad portfolio of dual-core and single-core solutions and a
robust 64-bit ecosystem, AMD and its customers are leading the way to
the next evolution of enterprise computing.
