According tothe tablet PC shipment survey results announcedby IDC, Q4 of 2012has recorded a YOY growth of 75.3%. It is expected that tabletPCswill have a mean annual growth rate of 24.5% in the next four years before 2016and becomethe market hit withthe highest growth potentials. Given this, IPCs(industrial PCs) will become thinner and laptops will also evolveinto the thin Ultrabook products in the future. Topology Research Institute predicts that Ultrabook sales will grow by 89% in 2013,accountingfor 15% of the total NB shipmentvolume. These cutting-edge IT products can be so lightweight and thin only with the help of SSD (solid-state disk).

Considering the increasing popularity of thin and lightweight products, Apacer launchesthe M.2 modular SSD with an SATA 3 (6Gb/s) high-speed transmission interface, including T42 A100-M (16~128GB; the estimated read/write speedup to310/140MB/sec) for Thin Client and T60 A110-M (32~256GB;the estimatedread/write speedup to400/160MB/sec) forlightweight IPCs. Eachhasa volume of 22x42mmand 22 x 60 mmwithout the need for add-on DRAM and both are low-cost and highly efficient, lightweight SSD solutions. Apacer has also launched T60 A200-M (22 x 60mm) and T80 A201-M which arecustomized for tablet PCs and Ultrabook that require even higher performance. It adopts theToggle DDR 2.0 NAND Flash and the add-on DDR3 DRAM,for the estimatedread/write speed up to480/350MB/sec respectively. It guarantees an excellent read/write speed and storage capacity and makes a mobile product even thinner and lighter.

According to Jeff Lin, Embedded Application Product DivisionSenior Director of Apacer, “The so-called M.2 modular SSD is the next-generation SSD interface standard that Intel develops for tablet PC, Ultrabook and Thin Client. Its full name is PCI express M.2 NGFF (Next Generation Form Factor) with a standard volume of 22mmx42mmand a single-side thickness of 2.75mm. It is 40% smaller than the previousmSATA interface and therefore offers more utilizablespace for mobile devices.” Moreover, NGFF is also a breakthrough compared with mSATA as the latter can accommodate 4 flash memories on the motherboard while NGFF can accommodate flash memory chips on both sides of the motherboard, hence reducing the overallcosts.

MLC solution is adopted for this series of M.2 modular SSD,which is resistant to system vibrationand dropping shock. It also featuresthe 40-bit ECC (Error Correcting Code)function andsupports Windows 7 TRIM optimization command The product will undergo ORT (on-going reliability testing) upon massproduction. The testing can ensure the SSD work well under sternenvironmental conditionswhile contributing to the mass production. This way, better reliability and longer lifespan can be ensured, making the SSD the best storage option with stable performances.

Apacer is one of the few Taiwanese manufacturers with software, hardware and firmware R&D capacity and can launch pioneer products ahead of its industrial peers. It also enjoys robust manufacturing quality, excellent customizabilityand real-time technical supports. Once recognized and validated by the client, its firmware and main components can be fixed immediately and supplied to the client in a stable and highly reliable manner, hence reducing the risks of undersupply and incompatibility. For that reason, Apacer products has certified by topnotch U.S. and Japanese clients and become one of the world’s top 10 PC SSD suppliers. Samples of Apacer’s next-generation M.2 modular SSD products customized for tablet PCs, Ultrabook and thin IPC are available to all customers for evaluations and testingnow.
