FREMONT, Calif. -- Apr. 16, 2007 Plextor(R) LLC, a leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance digital media equipment, today announced the immediate availability of the PX-240A Ultimate 3-in-1 CD-RW Drive. The new CD-R/RW/ROM drive is RoHS compliant and fully compatible with the new Windows(R) Vista(TM) operating system. The PX-240A drive introduces a new level of CD drive performance and features -- all backed by Plextor's reputation for quality.

The PX-240A 3-in-1 CD-RW drive delivers lightening fast CD recording speeds of 52X CD-R and 32X CD-RW, as well as 52X CD-ROM playback, with broad-base CD media compatibility. The drive features a 2MB buffer and Buffer Underrun Proof Technology to prevent buffer underrun errors and allow multi-tasking. High-quality Digital Audio Extraction (DAE) eliminates pops, clicks, and hisses for superior sound quality. the only application I can see this being useful for is for a business that distributes alot of CD's, for the normal consumer it seems like lits a little late. Honestly I cant even remember the last time I burned anything to a CD, its always been DVD's for me and even that hasnt been for a long time, my 2gb thumbdrive has replaced and DVD's/CD's ive wanted to burn. What about everyone else? does anyone burn CD's anymore?

Still with that said I am kind of curious to see just how fast 52x burning is lol.

Why are they putting more time into CD burners? DVD burners are fairly cheap, DVDs only cost a bit more than CDs, and everyone has an MP3 player for music.

I dont see the point. Why waist the time on dead technology?

its not dead for those that need to burn a lot of cd, or don't need the extra space. Why would you pay more for DVDs when you don't not the space, and CDs are cheaper?

yeah i agree dicecca112

i'd love this cause i wouldn't have to burn my band demos money instead of cds by taking them to a professional cd replication place.
besides, i like the 52x read as well. 60 bucks is a pretty damn good deal with their brandname and the warranty.

btw from time to time i do love to burn a cd on the run before i go out and drive

i mean, why not?

if you want to really burn some CD"s stopthekilling you could get like six of these and make a burning tower. That thing would sound awesome when they all start spinning at the same time lol.

Some of us have not yet bought mp3 players

Albeit we are morons, we are proud morons. I am a thumb drive kinda man myself, I should just break down and get like an 8 gig flash/mp3 player. That would suit my needs perfectly.
